Oracle Database Client 21c AMI by cloudimg
Connect your application tiers, CI/CD pipelines, and DBA workstations to Oracle Database servers in minutes - not hours. This pre-configured AMI eliminates the manual download, dependency resolution, and environment variable setup that typically consumes 2-4 hours of engineering time per instance. Launch a production-ready Oracle Client environment with a single click and start querying immediately.
Why This AMI Instead of a Manual Install
Installing Oracle Database Client on a vanilla EC2 instance requires downloading the installer from Oracle, resolving library dependencies for your specific Linux distribution, configuring ORACLE_HOME and PATH variables, setting up tnsnames.ora, and validating connectivity. This AMI delivers all of that pre-solved:
Oracle Database Client 21c fully installed and configured with OCI, SQL*Plus, JDBC, and ODP.NET Core libraries
Environment variables and paths pre-set so tools work immediately after launch
AWS CLI v2, Systems Manager Agent, and CloudWatch Agent pre-installed for automation and observability
ENA networking enabled for low-latency, high-throughput connections (up to 25 Gbps single flow)
SELinux enabled with latest security patches applied at build time
Supported Operating Systems
Choose the Linux distribution that matches your existing fleet standards - all from a single listing:
Oracle Linux 8
CentOS 7
AlmaLinux 8
Rocky Linux 9
This eliminates the need for separate subscriptions or custom builds when your organization runs mixed Linux environments.
Common Use Cases
Microservices and application tiers requiring OCI, JDBC, or ODP.NET Core libraries to connect to Oracle Database servers
CI/CD pipelines running Data Pump exports, RMAN backups, or SQL*Plus automation scripts
DBA workstations for ad-hoc queries, monitoring, and administrative tasks
BI gateways and monitoring agents that need lightweight, secure Oracle connectivity on EC2
Security Baseline
Hardened OS image with SELinux enforcing mode enabled
Latest patches applied at AMI build time
No database engine or listener included - this is a client-only image with minimal attack surface
Deploy in a private subnet with security groups restricting outbound traffic to port 1521 on your database hosts
Requirements and Limitations
Architecture: x86_64 (AMD/Intel) EC2 instances
Minimum instance: t3.small (2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM) for light workloads; m5.large recommended for CI/CD pipelines
Oracle licensing: This AMI contains the Oracle Database Client only. You must hold appropriate Oracle Database licenses or use Oracle Technology Network license terms for your database server connections.
Supported server versions: Oracle Database Client 21c is certified to connect to Oracle Database12.1, 12.2, 19c, and 21c servers
Not included: No database engine, no listener, no Oracle Enterprise Manager agent
24/7 Expert Support
This AMI includes round-the-clock support from cloudimg specialists with an average one-hour ticket response time and a guaranteed 24-hour resolution SLA. Whether you need help with tnsnames.ora configuration, connectivity troubleshooting, or integration with your CI/CD toolchain, our team is available 365 days a year.
Get Started
Launch the AMI, SSH into your instance, and run "sqlplus username@service_name" to verify connectivity to your Oracle Database. Pre-configured environment variables mean no additional setup is required for basic operations.

Highlights
Skip2-4 hours of manual Oracle Client installation and configuration per instance. This AMI launches with Oracle Database Client 21c fully installed, environment variables pre-set, and connectivity tools ready. Your developers and DBAs connect to Oracle Database servers immediately after launch instead of troubleshooting dependency issues and path configurations on a vanilla EC2 instance.
Round-the-clock expert support with an average one-hour ticket response time, guaranteed within 24 hours. When connectivity issues arise at 2 AM or a tnsnames.ora misconfiguration blocks your deployment pipeline, cloudimg specialists resolve it for you - eliminating hours of self-troubleshooting that would otherwise stall your team and delay releases.
Four Linux distributions in one listing - Oracle Linux 8, CentOS 7, AlmaLinux 8, and Rocky Linux 9 - so you match your existing fleet standards without managing separate AMI subscriptions. ENA networking delivers up to 25 Gbps single-flow bandwidth for high-throughput database operations, and pre-installed CloudWatch Agent plus Systems Manager Agent provide observability from first boot.

Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Pricing is usage-based, so you are billed only for the hours each instance runs. There are no upfront commitments or fixed terms. The dimensions are not tiers or feature levels. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance type, from small general-purpose sizes to large memory-, compute-, and storage-optimized options. The hourly rate scales with the instance size and family you select. All instances include the same Oracle Database Client 21c software and 24/7 support. You also pay standard AWS infrastructure charges separately.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually receive when I run one of these hourly instances?
You get an Amazon EC2 instance running Oracle Database Client 21c (version 21.3.0.0) on Linux. It includes SQL*Plus, Oracle Net, and client utilities to connect to remote Oracle databases. A dedicated oracle OS user, AWS CLI, monitoring agents, and 24/7 support with a 24-hour response SLA are included.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software rate meters running time only, so a fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay standard AWS charges, such as storage for the attached disk, while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
How do I pick the right instance type, and what are the minimum resources needed?
Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, and the hourly rate rises with size and family. The client needs at least 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM, and 20 GB disk. A t3.small (2 vCPU, 2 GB RAM) or larger is recommended for typical use.
