You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. Pricing scales with compute size across two instance families. The t2, t3, and t3a options cover burstable general-purpose workloads in large, xlarge, and 2xlarge sizes. The m3 and m4 options cover fixed general-purpose workloads, with m4 reaching up to 4xlarge, 10xlarge, and 16xlarge sizes. Larger instances carry more CPU and memory, so the hourly rate rises with size. You select the instance that matches your workload and are billed only for the hours you run it.
