One unit is one running EC2 instance of the size you select, billed per hour. It includes the preconfigured Ansible software on Ubuntu 26. You pick a single instance type, and each hour that instance runs counts toward your charge for that dimension.
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue this hourly fee. Underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still incur separate AWS charges while the instance is stopped. You pay the software rate only for hours the instance runs.

Once the instance is running, connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client with the configured SSH key. The default username is 'ubuntu'.
