You pay by the hour for this FTP server running on Windows Server 2022. Billing follows the AWS EC2 instance type you select to host the software. Each dimension maps to one instance size, from small general-purpose types to compute, memory, storage, and GPU-focused options, plus large bare-metal machines. Your hourly rate scales with the size and capabilities of the chosen instance. Smaller instances suit light file transfer needs, while larger ones handle heavier workloads or more concurrent users. You select one instance type per deployment and pay only for the hours you run it.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what runs on the instance I select?
Each hourly unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you pick. The instance runs Windows Server 2022 with a preconfigured FTP server supporting FTPS/TLS encrypted transfers. You pay for each hour the instance runs, based on that instance type's compute, memory, storage, or GPU profile.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when the FTP server instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage fees for the attached disk may still apply while the instance is stopped. You resume software charges when you start the instance again.
How do I move to a bigger or smaller instance if my transfer load changes?
You select one instance type per deployment. To change size, you stop the instance and switch to a different type, then resume. Your hourly rate then follows the new instance type. This lets you match the rate to lighter or heavier file transfer workloads.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
