Who this is for:
Teams that need a remediated, evidence-backed baseline for regulated workloads - the OpenSCAP score and audit artifacts your assessors can review without re-scanning from scratch on day one.
What you get (StigReady Applied tier):
StigReady Base partition layout plus CIS Benchmark aligned Level 1 remediation (StigForge roles)
Scored in the build against the raw, unmodified SSG CIS Benchmark Level 1 Server profile
The published score counts every documented exemption as a failure. Boot loader, root and sudo password rules fail until you run sudo stigready-set-credentials (AWS Marketplace does not allow these passwords in an AMI). Rules that do not apply to a cloud AMI (for example remote log offload and smartcard/CAC) are listed with a POA&M entry and the customer action in the evidence bundle.

Getting started:
Subscribe and launch in EC2 with your SSH key.
Connect as ubuntu; restrict security group TCP/22 to trusted IPs.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay an hourly software fee for this hardened image, billed per instance on top of your EC2 costs. The 17 dimensions are not feature tiers. Each one maps to a specific EC2 instance size across the t3, m5, m6i, c5, and r5 families. You pick the instance size that fits your compute needs, and the hourly rate scales with that choice. Larger instances in a family carry higher hourly rates. The product capabilities stay the same regardless of which instance size you select.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate pay for on top of my EC2 instance costs?
The hourly rate covers a software fee for the hardened image, charged per running instance. It is separate from, and added to, standard EC2 compute charges. Each image ships with an evidence bundle: an ARF file, HTML report, POA&M, SBOM, and CVE scan scored against the raw SSG profile.
Am I charged the software fee when an instance is stopped or powered off?
The software fee meters per running instance-hour. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS fees, such as storage for the volume, while the instance is stopped. The licence bills only running time.
Do the larger instance dimensions include extra features over the smaller ones?
No. All 17 dimensions deliver the same hardened image and evidence bundle. The dimension you pick only reflects the EC2 instance size you run. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates because of their compute capacity, not because of added software capability.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
Subscribe in AWS Marketplace, then launch in EC2 with your SSH key pair. Connect via SSH as ubuntu. The recommended security group allows SSH (TCP 22) from 0.0.0.0/0; narrow it to your admin network's IP range when you launch. This AMI requires IMDSv2-compatible instance metadata settings at launch. Documentation: https://stigready.com/applied. Download the per-version evidence bundle (OpenSCAP reports, POA&M, SBOM, CVE scan) from the URL in Support below. To meet the STIG/CIS boot loader, root and sudo password requirements on your instance, run sudo stigready-set-credentials after first login (AWS Marketplace policy does not allow these passwords to ship in the AMI).
