This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a secure, ready-to-use Metabase business intelligence server. Ask questions of your data and share dashboards, with no SQL needed for most questions, with unique passwords for every instance.
Metabase is an open source business intelligence tool. Anyone in a company can connect it to a database, ask questions with a simple point-and-click editor or with SQL, and turn the answers into charts and dashboards to share. This image gives startups, analysts and operations teams a working Metabase server in minutes, with its settings database already set up.
What is included: Metabase 0.63.16 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with Java, MySQL 8.0 as the Metabase settings database, Apache as a reverse proxy on port 80, phpMyAdmin for database administration and Webmin 2.660 for server administration. Metabase's site address follows the instance's public IP automatically. Security is on by default: no password ships in the image. On first boot every instance sets its own Metabase administrator, MySQL root and Webmin passwords and a new phpMyAdmin secret, MySQL listens only on the server itself, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
What you get on top of the free software: a pre-built and tested image that is ready in minutes, a unique security setup for every server, simple scripts for changing passwords, regular image updates, and help by email whenever you need it. Metabase is open source software licensed under AGPL-3.0. Metabase is a trademark of Metabase, Inc. This image is an independent build by ProvenCloud.
Highlights
Ready in minutes: launch the instance, open its public IP and sign in. Metabase, Java, MySQL for its settings, phpMyAdmin and Webmin are already installed and configured, with no setup wizard to complete.
Secure by default: no shared or default passwords. Every instance sets its own Metabase, MySQL and Webmin passwords on first boot and a new phpMyAdmin secret is generated, and SSH accepts key-based login only.
Answers without SQL: connect your databases, ask questions with a point-and-click editor or SQL, and share dashboards and alerts with your team.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for the software, billed per running instance. Pricing follows the EC2 instance type you pick, so cost scales with the compute size you run. Options span general-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r, x, z), storage-optimized (d, i, h), and accelerated (g, p, inf, trn, f, vt) families, across many generations and sizes. Larger sizes within a family cost more per hour than smaller ones. The product ships as a prepared machine image with no separate license key. You also pay AWS for the underlying compute and storage.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to, and how is it counted?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you choose. You pay the software rate for every hour that instance runs. Billing follows the instance type, so a larger size costs more per hour than a smaller one in the same family.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software rate. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for the attached EBS volume, which is billed by AWS separately from this software.
Do I pay a separate license key fee on top of the hourly rate?
No. The image bundles open-source software under AGPL-3.0 with no license key required. You pay the hourly software rate plus your AWS charges for compute and storage. There is no runtime agent or control plane to adopt.

Vendor refund policy
Software charges are billed hourly, only while your instance runs. You can stop charges at any time by terminating the instance or cancelling your subscription. Charges already incurred are not refundable.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
