SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications is the leading Linux platform for SAP on AWS backed by a single point of contact via AWS Premium Support.
Note: If you are doing an in-place upgrade to a newer product version, please ensure you are purchasing annual subscription for the original product to avoid double charges. For example, if your EC2 instance was launched with SLES SAP SP5 and later upgraded to SP6, please maintain a subscription for SP5, not SP6.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) for SAP Applications is the leading Linux platform for SAP HANA, SAP NetWeaver, SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Applications providing optimized performance and reduced downtime as well as faster SAP system deployments.
Reduce complexity of managing SAP landscapes with SUSE's Expanded Service Pack Overlap Support providing support for 4.5 years with an active subscription. For more information visit the <www.suse.com/support> * Do note - there are significant Differences between SLES and SLES for SAP Applications. Please evaluate carefully based on your business needs. After the AMI is deployed, changing the operating system type will require deploying a new AMI and re-installing the applications. The following features that are critical to run SAP workload are only available in SLES 4 SAP Applications, but not in regular SLES: 3 Years Extended Service Pack Overlap Support (ESPOS) , SLES High Availability Extension (Pacemaker framework), High Availability Solutions for NetWeaver, S/4HANA & HANA System Replication, Continuous tuning agent (saptune), Kernel Live Patching, Lifecycle Management Module, Workload Memory Protection. Each of these add significant value to a successful, high-performing SAP Landscape.
SLES for SAP Applications 15 introduced the following new features:
-Improved high availability capabilities including early recognition of primary system failures
-Pre/post-script commands to adapt SAP HANA failover/recovery to user-defined scenarios and internal tools
-Workload Memory Protection replaces Page Cache Management to prioritize performance of SAP applications. If you intend to run SLES for SAP on Reserved Instances, make sure to purchase them in EC2 Console using Linux/Unix or Linux/Unix (Amazon VPC) as Platform selection. SUSE Linux Platform option is only relevant for running regular SLES. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AsztZ7biT0&feature=youtu.be

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for each running instance, with no upfront commitment. Rates are tied to the EC2 instance type you choose, so pricing scales with the size and family of the machine. Compute-focused families (c-series), general-purpose families (m- and t-series), and memory-heavy families (r-, x-, and u-series) each carry their own hourly rate. Larger sizes within a family cost more per hour than smaller ones. The high-memory u-series instances support the largest SAP workloads. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. This operating system is validated for SAP mission-critical applications.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate cover for each EC2 instance I run?
The rate covers the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications software license and its support, metered per instance-hour. It sits on top of the underlying EC2 compute charge from AWS. You pay one hourly software rate for each running instance, based on its instance type.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped, such as a standby SAP disaster-recovery node?
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance accrues no software charge for that period. When you restart it, hourly billing resumes. Note that separate AWS storage fees for attached volumes may still apply even while the instance is stopped.
How do I pick the right instance type for a large SAP HANA workload?
Match the instance to your workload's memory and compute needs. Memory-heavy r-, x-, and u-series types suit in-memory SAP HANA databases. The high-memory u-series metal instances handle the largest datasets. This operating system is validated by SAP for mission-critical applications across these families.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
