CrystalBridge® SAP System(s) Analysis by SNP

A System(s) Analysis is a function of SNP’s CrystalBridge® software that analyzes over 300,000 data points of an SAP system to construct a summary of its usage, characteristics, customizations, data volumes, interfaces, and compatibility with S/4HANA. Data is rendered in an interactive graphical interface for ease of viewing and manipulating data to provide different slices of information.

A scan offers many benefits, such as:

• Knowing what data is generated by organization unit by location by year
• Understanding what % of the total DB size is current data vs historical data
• Identifying pre-projects are required for S/4HANA
• Planning information for future cloud or S/4HANA migrations
• Knowing extent to which current customizations are necessary or compatible
• Calculating the amount of data associated with unused org elements
• Measuring current process deviations from SAP best practices

The process to run a scan is simple. An executable file is transported to the SAP system you want to scan. This loads the software, and the scan can begin. It is a single-threaded program that requires minimal system resources to run and can be stopped and started as required. The output file is typically no larger than 5-6MB and is uploaded to SNP’s CrystalBridge® for rendering. A simple uninstall program removes the scan executable. The scan captures metadata only! Meaning, it will capture information such as number of documents, document types, and master data types, but not the details of the documents themselves. No PII, PHI, or other sensitive data is captured. Don't believe it? No problem, you can view the output file before sending it back to SNP for rendering to satisfy your data security requirements.

It does not take much time to run a scan. On average, it takes about 1 hour per TB of data. The speed will depend upon a number of factors, but overall it will take mere hours to provide you with a detailed analysis as opposed to multiple days of reading and synthesizing documents and standard system reports. You will receive a high-level analysis of the scan and a 30-45min discussion with one of our experts to review the output with you and any implications found. Further discussions can be scheduled as a result.

SNP recommends that you run the scan on your production environments so that you obtain accurate information. If you prefer not to run it in production, no problem. The scan can be run on any SAP system. We recommend that, for the scan output to be valuable, that the system upon which it is run is a recent copy of production, preferably containing data that is 6 months old or less.

While the instructions are easy to read and follow, support is available should you require it. For extremely large SAP systems SNP can provide resources to monitor the analysis program.
