See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, and workload profile you choose. Burstable options like the t2 and t3 families suit variable or lighter loads. The c-series targets compute-heavy work, the m-series balances compute and memory, and the r-series adds more memory. Larger instances within a family cost more per hour. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment. Maintenance support is included with the software.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to for this Typesense listing?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select, billed per hour. A t3.medium unit is one t3.medium virtual machine. The software runs on that instance, so your count equals the number of instances you launch, regardless of shared underlying hardware.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software fees. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage charges for attached volumes, but those are AWS infrastructure costs, not the software licence.
Can I switch to a different instance type as my search load grows?
Yes. Because billing is per instance-hour with no upfront commitment, you can launch a different instance type when needs change. You pay the hourly rate for whichever type runs during each hour. Moving from a t3 to an m5 or r5 instance changes your rate accordingly.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
