R-CLI holds the highest publicly reported score on Terminal Bench 2.1: 84.3% running Claude Opus 4.8 via Amazon Bedrock, above every published result. The same harness scores 72% on GLM 5.2, an open-source model customers can self-host, which means frontier-level AI coding where source code never leaves the customer's VPC. This wins deals that every closed coding tool is structurally locked out of: defence, intelligence, regulated finance and health, and any enterprise that treats its codebase as crown-jewel IP.
Target customer profile: Enterprises whose security teams have blocked AI coding tools because they ship source code to a vendor API. Defence and intelligence, public sector, banks, insurers, healthcare, and IP-sensitive engineering organizations. Primary use cases: Sanctioned enterprise AI coding replacing blocked or shadow tools, air-gapped development on self-hosted open models, and large-scale engineering acceleration with model choice per workload. Core capabilities: R-CLI is a recursive coding harness (the harness does the work, so performance is not tied to one expensive frontier model) with 260+ pre-loaded MCP connections and nearly 300 skills. Backboard Studio is the desktop IDE companion. Both are model-agnostic: run Amazon Bedrock models, or self-host an open model for a fully air-gapped path. Key differentiators: Highest publicly reported Terminal Bench 2.1 score (84.3% with Claude Opus 4.8 via Amazon Bedrock, verification logs public on GitHub). Open-model path proves on-prem is not a performance downgrade (72% on GLM 5.2). Closed competitors cannot copy the air-gapped path. Up to 90% lower cost on open models, 10-30% fewer tokens on any model.
Highlights
Enterprise AI coding harness with the highest publicly reported Terminal Bench 2.1 score (84.3% on Amazon Bedrock). Also runs self-hosted open models for air-gapped coding. Code never leaves the customer's VPC.
AI coding IDE with the highest publicly reported Terminal Bench 2.1 score (84.3% on Amazon Bedrock). Model-agnostic: run any frontier model or self-hosted open models for fully air-gapped development.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on the duration and terms of your contract with the vendor, and additional usage. You pay upfront or in installments according to your contract terms with the vendor. This entitles you to a specified quantity of use for the contract duration. Usage-based pricing is in effect for overages or additional usage not covered in the contract. These charges are applied on top of the contract price. If you choose not to renew or replace your contract before the contract end date, access to your entitlements will expire.

Enterprise Platform License
Backboard deployed inside your own AWS environment. The full platform installs in your VPC: the unified API with routing across 17,000+ models, #1-benchmarked memory (LoCoMo, LongMemEval), agentic hybrid RAG, and stateful threads, plus Backboard Studio and R-CLI seats for your entire engineering organization. Includes BBQuant model compression for models you own, running on your hardware. Your keys, your access controls, your audit trail, opt-in egress. Deployment is delivered by Backboard's forward-deployed engineering team and scoped to your environment. Sold via private offer with bespoke pricing, custom terms, and flexible payment schedules. Purchases draw down your committed AWS spend. Contact hello@backboard.io to start scoping.
You buy access three ways, each priced per unit. Studio Developer Seat covers one developer, so you buy one seat per person. Studio Team scales the same coding environment to a group, adding shared admin, centralized billing, higher usage capacity, and priority support. The Enterprise Platform License installs the whole platform inside your own AWS environment for your entire engineering organization. It is sold through a private offer with custom pricing, terms, and payment schedules, and purchases draw down your committed AWS spend. Across all three, model inference is billed at provider price when you bring your own keys.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one seat when I buy the Studio Developer Seat or Studio Team units?
One seat maps to one individual developer. You buy one seat per person who uses Backboard Studio. Each seat includes the agentic coding environment plus R-CLI for the terminal. To cover a team, you purchase a seat for every developer who needs access.
How does model inference get charged, and does it appear on top of my seat cost?
Your seat covers the coding environment. Model inference is billed separately at the provider's price when you bring your own keys. The tool routes across many models or your own keys, and Studio reports 10-30% fewer tokens on any model. Both charges are independent.
What extra capabilities does the Enterprise Platform License add beyond the seat-based options?
The Enterprise Platform License installs the whole platform inside your own AWS VPC for your entire engineering organization. It adds the unified API, memory, agentic hybrid RAG, stateful threads, and model compression for models you own on your hardware. You keep your keys, access controls, audit trail, and opt-in egress.
