Overview
CFD Direct From the Cloud is a complete platform providing OpenFOAM (open source computational fluid dynamics) and supporting software running on a long-term support (LTS) version of Ubuntu Linux. Users connect to an instance using SSH or, optionally, a remote desktop. OpenFOAM (Open Field Operation and Manipulation) is a free, open source CFD software package which has a large user base across most areas of engineering and science, from both commercial and academic organizations. OpenFOAM has an extensive range of features to solve anything from complex fluid flows involving chemical reactions, turbulence and heat transfer, to solid dynamics and electromagnetics. It includes tools for meshing, notably snappyHexMesh, a parallelized mesher for complex CAD geometries, and for pre- and post-processing. Almost everything (including meshing, and pre- and post-processing) runs in parallel as standard, enabling users to take full advantage of computer hardware at their disposal.
Highlights
- Turnkey Installation of OpenFOAM
- Desktop Access from Linux, Mac OS X and Windows
- Enables Pay-as-you-go Scalable Parallel Computation

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Great way to use OpenFoam
I found the platform very easy to start using. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to start using OpenFoam.
Great service! Highly recommended for enthusiasts as well as professionals.
CFD Direct From the Cloud is very easy to setup. It is a good alternative as a low cost computation and a substitute for a dedicated workstation. I used it quite extensively for a couple of months on all of the instance types offered.
Highly recommended service!
Just a great tool to get started with real cfd!
The collaboration of CFD direct with cloud computing was for me a nice opportunity to start with real cfd calculations.
Because at once, I got a very reliable hardware environment with preinstalled cfd software on a linux platform without initial costs.
With the written support in website of CFD direct, it was easy to set up the first instance and remote desktop.
During the projects, I could get more CFD results in a quicker way just by launching as many extra new instances as I want.
Also "spot pricing" is working good to my opinion.
Perfect
It just works! The best cloud environment for CFD at the moment. Full current OpenFoam installed on ubuntu. Simulate all you need here on the cloud!
I recommend the CFD Direct cloud option to serious OpenFOAMERS
Wow! This service couldn't have come much sooner for me...so timely when I needed it. If you are regularly in the world of numerical simulation, this is a must have option. The service is quite reliable.
