Overview
TinyProxy is a lightweight open source web proxy. It is very useful in a small network setting, where a larger proxy would either be too resource demanding, or a security risk. It is an ideal solution when a HTTP/HTTPS proxy is needed, but resources for a larger proxy are unreasonable to use.
One of the key features of the Server is the buffering connection concept. It buffers a high speed response from a server, and then speeds it up to relay it back at the higher speed. This feature greatly reduces the problems with sluggishness on the Internet.
If you are sharing an Internet connection with a small network, and you only want HTTP requests to be allowed, then Tinyproxy is a great tool for the network administrator.
Highlights
- If you're looking to build a custom web proxy, Tinyproxy is easy to modify to your custom needs. The source is straightforward, adhering to the KISS principle. As such, it can be used as a foundation for anything you may need a web proxy to do.
- Tinyproxy supports being configured as a transparent proxy, so it is usable without any configuration on the client side. It also can be used as a reverse proxy front-end to your web-resources.
- With a bit of configuration, Tinyproxy can be runned with no special privileges, thus making the chance of compromising the system minimal.
