Most organisations know they should be doing more with data — but can't articulate where to start or justify the investment. D55's Data Strategy Diagnostic (DSD) solves this by delivering a structured, scored assessment of your organisation's data maturity across four pillars — Mindset, People, Process, and Technology — in a single half-day session. The output is a gap analysis, prioritised roadmap, and board-ready presentation that gives leadership a clear, evidence-based picture of where they stand and what needs to happen next — at no cost, with no commitment required.

    Overview

    D55 Data Strategy Diagnostic (DSD)

The D55 Data Strategy Diagnostic is a free, structured assessment designed to give organisations a clear, scored picture of their current data maturity — and a prioritised roadmap for improving it. It is D55's entry-point engagement for data and AI strategy work, and is delivered at no cost to the customer as a standalone session with no commitment required.

    The Problem It Solves

Most organisations are sitting on significant untapped value in their data. They know it. But without a clear view of where they stand — and what specifically needs to change — data initiatives become disconnected experiments: a dashboard here, a data lake there, with no coherent thread and no board-level buy-in.

The DSD removes the guesswork. It gives leadership an honest, evidence-based assessment of where the organisation actually is, not where it thinks it is — and a clear, prioritised path to data-driven operations.

    How It Works

The DSD is delivered as a structured half-day workshop with 10–20 stakeholders spanning IT, operations, commercial, and data functions. Participants complete a 22-question diagnostic covering four pillars:

Mindset — data-driven decision making, strategic alignment, leadership engagement, innovation understanding, funding and approval processes, and value measurement.

People — organisational design, role definition, skill development, future readiness, and collaboration effectiveness.

Process — data governance, data integration, data access, quality assurance, access control, and regulatory compliance.

Technology — platform architecture, storage capabilities, data process automation, analytical tools, and advanced analytics, ML, and AI platform maturity.

Each question maps to a maturity score from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest). Results are aggregated per pillar to produce an overall maturity profile across five levels:

Beginner, Experimenter, Adopter, Scaler, and Data Driven.

    What Customers Receive

Within one week of the workshop, D55 delivers two outputs: A Gap Analysis Document — a detailed report covering current state scores per pillar and per question, key findings and themes, direct quotes from workshop participants, specific and actionable recommendations, and a technology stack recommendation aligned to the gaps identified, defaulting to an AWS-centric architecture including SageMaker Unified Studio, S3, and supporting services. An Executive Summary Presentation — a board-ready slide deck summarising the maturity radar, headline findings, and prioritised recommendations — structured for leadership sign-off and programme funding conversations.

    What Comes Next

The DSD is the entry point into D55's Data Strategy engagement — a fixed-price, six-week programme that takes the diagnostic findings and produces a full data strategy: target state architecture, implementation roadmap, and commercial proposal. For customers ready to proceed, D55 can also access AWS funding programmes including MAP, POC, and CEI to offset downstream implementation costs.

    Why D55

D55 is an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner with deep expertise in data platform design, cloud-native architecture, and AI/ML on AWS. Every DSD is facilitated by experienced data and cloud practitioners — not junior consultants — and the outputs are grounded in real delivery experience across energy, maritime, transport and logistics, and PE-backed SaaS businesses. The diagnostic framework is aligned to industry-standard data capability models and continuously refined based on client engagements.

The DSD is free. There is no obligation to proceed to a paid engagement. D55's position is simple: if the diagnostic delivers genuine value and the roadmap resonates, the next conversation follows naturally.

    Use cases

    Data Catalog

Many organisations lack visibility into what data they have, where it lives, and who owns it. The D55 Data Strategy Diagnostic assesses data cataloguing maturity and identifies gaps in metadata management and discoverability — producing a prioritised roadmap for implementing a governed AWS data catalog that enables self-service analytics.

    Data-Driven Insights

Scaling businesses with fragmented data and disconnected systems struggle to access reliable insights without significant manual effort. The D55 DSD identifies specific gaps in decision-making culture, data access, and analytical tooling — delivering a scored maturity assessment and prioritised roadmap toward data-driven operations.

    Data Movement and Integration

Siloed data sources and manual reconciliation between systems are among the most common barriers to reliable analytics and AI adoption. The D55 DSD assesses data integration maturity across the Process pillar — recommending specific improvements to modernise integration architecture on AWS and enable automated, trusted data flows.

    Integration guide

The D55 Data Strategy Diagnostic (DSD) and Data Strategy Engagement work as a sequential two-stage programme. The DSD delivers a scored maturity assessment across Mindset, People, Process, and Technology — producing a gap analysis and prioritised roadmap that directly feeds into the Data Strategy engagement. The Data Strategy engagement takes those findings and produces a full target-state architecture, implementation roadmap, and board-ready presentation — built on AWS services including SageMaker Unified Studio, S3, Glue, Athena, and Bedrock.
