Production-ready MinIO with full root access, S3-compatible API, and security hardening - a self-hosted object storage solution for teams needing complete data control on AWS.
This fully managed MinIO solution delivers a production-ready, S3-compatible object storage server on AWS, built on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Every instance is pre-configured with security best practices, performance optimizations, and automated operations.
Why Choose MinIO on AWS?
MinIO provides S3-compatible object storage with full root and OS-level access. Configure custom bucket policies, lifecycle rules, replication, and encryption without S3 per-request pricing. Ideal for applications requiring S3 API compatibility with complete data sovereignty and predictable costs.
Key Features
S3-Compatible API
Full S3 API compatibility for seamless integration with existing tools, SDKs, and applications. Drop-in replacement for Amazon S3 in development, testing, and production environments.
Automated Setup
On first login, an interactive setup script configures MinIO with access credentials, bucket policies, and firewall rules - all within minutes.
Performance Optimized
Optimized for high-throughput object storage with configurable erasure coding and caching for the selected instance type.
Use Cases
S3-compatible object storage for applications and microservices
Data lake storage for analytics and machine learning pipelines
Backup and disaster recovery storage target

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you choose to run this managed object storage service. The eight options fall into three instance families. The t2 and t3 options (medium, large, and xlarge) are general-purpose burstable instances, while the m5 options (large and xlarge) are general-purpose instances. Within each family, moving from medium to large to xlarge adds more compute and memory. Your cost scales with the instance you select and the hours you run it. The vendor manages provisioning, monitoring, backups, and updates across all options.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly instance charge?
Each hourly charge maps to one running EC2 instance of the size you pick. The t2 and t3 types are burstable general-purpose instances; m5 types are general-purpose instances with fixed performance. Larger sizes add more compute and memory. The vendor deploys and manages the object storage on that instance.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or idle?
You pay for hours the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that underlying AWS storage and other resources may still bill separately even while stopped. To halt the software charge, stop the instance.
How do I move to a larger instance if my storage needs grow?
You change the instance size and are billed at the hourly rate for whichever size runs. The vendor supports service cloning and migration between sizes, regions, and cloud providers. Provisioning, monitoring, backups, and updates carry across all instance options, so management stays the same as you scale.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
Launch an Instance
From AWS Marketplace, click Continue to Subscribe and then Continue to Configuration.
Choose the Recommended Instance Type
Select t2.medium or larger for optimal performance and stability.
Configure Security Group
Allow inbound traffic on the following ports:
22 (SSH) - for secure terminal access
80 (HTTP) - for initial domain verification and SSL setup
443 (HTTPS) - for secure MinIO web access
9000 - MinIO API port (optional external access)
9001 - MinIO Console port (for web interface access)
Connect to the Instance
ssh -i <your-key.pem> ubuntu@<public-ip>
First-Boot Setup
On first launch, the initialization scripts automatically perform the following actions:
Detect your public IP address
Prompt you to map a custom domain for MinIO access (optional)
Validate your DNS A record to ensure it resolves to your instance
Prompt for an admin email (used for SSL and notifications)
Generate or accept a MinIO root password
Configure Apache virtual hosts and prepare for SSL provisioning
Deploy MinIO using Docker Compose with persistent storage
Configure DNS (if using a custom domain)
Add an A record in your DNS provider pointing your domain (e.g., example.com) to the instance's public IP.
The setup automatically checks DNS propagation using multiple resolvers before continuing.
Automatic SSL Setup
Once DNS validation is complete, Certbot issues and installs a Let's Encrypt SSL certificate for your domain.
Apache is automatically configured to serve MinIO securely over HTTPS.
Start MinIO
The MinIO container is automatically started using Docker Compose.
To manually verify or restart the container, run:
cd /opt/app
docker compose ps
docker compose restart
Access MinIO Console
Access the MinIO web console securely via:
With domain: https://<your-domain>
Without domain: http://<public-ip>:9001
Use the credentials displayed after setup or stored in the .env file.
Login Credentials
Default credentials are stored in the environment file located at:
cat /opt/app/.env
Username: (value of ADMIN_LOGIN)
Password: (value of ADMIN_PASSWORD)
Environment File
All configuration details - domain, admin email, credentials, and SSL status - are stored in:
/opt/app/.env
