    Overview

SonarQube is an automated code scanning tool that can be integrated with CI/CD pipeline to detect security vulnerabilities and defects in the application code. It can integrate with your existing workflow to enable continuous code inspection across your project branches and pull requests. The single node SonarQube AMI by Kurian has pre-configured the community edition of SonarQube with PostgreSQL as the backend database. When an EC2 instance is spun up from this AMI the SonarQube service would be up and running on that machine for your immediate use.

Kurian has released preconfigured software applications such as CMS platforms, Jenkins, databases, LAMP stack, Ansible, popular tools in DevOps toolchain, and monitoring applications that are widely used by system administrators and DevOps engineers. For selected Linux distributions hardened images based on CIS benchmark are also available. The Kurian AMIs are built following official installation steps so you do not need to learn any custom procedures if additional configurations need to be done.

    Highlights

    • AMI built with the latest, stable version of the community edition of SonarQube.
    • AMI compatible for spinning up nodes to run SonarQube on a single node with PostgreSQL as the backend database
    • AMI is built on a patched operating system and the node created from this is ready to be deployed in production.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

    • Spin up the EC2 node with the port 22 open.
    • Follow AMI documentation to configure SonarQube for your specific requirements.
    • Spin up new instances using one-click from AWS console or aws cli or autoscaling options as your infrastructure provisioning process requires.
    • SSH into the new instance as the default OS user to perform additional configurations.
    • Customers can use this AMI to build applications. It is up to the application developers where and how to store any sensitive information and to encrypt data in rest and transit and, for any such requirements, the customers may have to customize this AMI to meet the needs as determined by the working of the applications.
    • The AMI does not store any passwords or keys and it is up to the customers to rotate the secrets if that would be added as part of the customization. The AMI does not have any encrypted data that is needed for any build process.

What do you like best about the product?
Its is best for Enterprise market segment. Provides good integration with Github and bitbucket. It is extremely good in improving the code quality, identifying code smells and making a structure wise written code.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI is good but can be made better. The configuration required to set this up on unix is little tough and cumbersome as the proper and to the point documentation is hard to find and you have to prepare your own installation guide.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is best in identifying code smells, dead codes, etc.

It let's you to write small structured functions with limited parameters which improves the code design and robustness.

    Lethargic support from Sonar

    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Best is the payment flexibility on the basis of lines scanned, also the rules management is pretty easy. Second best thing is the integration with GitHub or bitbucket.
What do you dislike about the product?
Worst is the support from sonar team, quality gate fails and when we create the project again then it passes. This is the worst behaviour, build command is same and we are unable to figure out the actual issue, when checked with the support team, they redirect us to the community channel, no proper response frm enterprise team management.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Code quality checks, coverage checks, duplicate of code, Relaxing rules as per need, billing model, easy integration with GitHub bitbucket and other systems, nice graphs and charts for representation.

What do you like best about the product?
It is very helpful in identifying dead code, improving code quality, code readability along with code reusability. It also helped with identifying time and space complexity of the codebase and helped to do further enhancements in the codebase. In and out it provides a great platform to improve the code grade.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI was good but could be more user friendly. With the multiple things together it might create chances of getting messed up with the things and could be tough at times to recover from them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have our application which uses pyspark for backend and uses React for front end. It has reduced some our vulnerabilities and also helped to improve the productivity of us whole as a team.
