What counts as one billable unit for this hourly image?
One unit is one running EC2 instance using the hardened Fedora 41 image. The hourly software charge attaches to each instance you launch, based on its instance type. Two running instances of the same type bill as two units. Each hour or partial hour an instance runs is metered.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies only while an instance runs. A stopped instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay standard AWS fees for attached storage, such as EBS volumes, while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Does the image cost differ between a bare-metal instance and a standard virtual one?
The hourly rate is tied to the specific instance type you select. Bare-metal types (like metal variants) and virtual types are separate dimensions with their own rates.
