Engagement Phases
Phase 1 - Discovery & Compliance Scoping (1-2 weeks): Data classification, regulatory context review, connectivity architecture selection, and Statement of Work definition. Deliverable: Architecture Decision Record and project plan.
Phase 2 - Firmware & Connectivity Engineering (4-10 weeks): Embedded firmware development (Zephyr or FreeRTOS with AWS IoT Device SDK), companion app development, gateway implementation via AWS IoT Greengrass, and protocol integration for serial, Modbus, and vendor-specific systems. Deliverable: Tested firmware package and connectivity stack.
Phase 3 - Identity, Provisioning & Security (2-4 weeks): Per-device X.509 certificates, AWS IoT fleet provisioning, certificate rotation and revocation, signed firmware images, AWS IoT Jobs configuration, and AWS IoT Device Defender fleet-security audits. Deliverable: Provisioning runbook and security audit report.
Phase 4 - Integration, Validation & Handoff (2-4 weeks): End-to-end testing, AWS IoT Rules integration to the customer's environment or Klika Tech's Connected Healthcare & Medical Device Telemetry Platform, documentation, and team knowledge transfer. Deliverable: Deployment runbook, test reports, and operational handoff package.
Typical engagements range from 8 to 20 weeks depending on device complexity, regulatory scope, and fleet scale.
Connectivity & Data Routing
Patient-linked clinical data is routed through mutually authenticated, TLS-encrypted IP connections using Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or cellular. De-identified device-operational data (battery status, uptime, error codes) can use low-power options including LoRaWAN and Amazon Sidewalk. PHI is never routed over shared community networks. Where clinical data must travel over LoRaWAN, Klika Tech designs a private, customer-controlled network architecture using AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN. Companion mobile applications provide secure BLE provisioning and gateway functionality. When connectivity is unavailable, encrypted store-and-forward patterns preserve data until a secure connection is restored.
Quality & Compliance
Delivery can be performed within the manufacturer's quality management system and design controls, including ISO 13485 and IEC 62304 processes where applicable. When PHI is in scope, customers must use HIPAA-eligible AWS services under an appropriate Business Associate Addendum.
