    Dimensions summary

You pay for this service based on usage, with two separate meters that combine into your bill. The first meter charges for each vCPU deployed per hour, so compute costs scale with the deployment size you select. The second meter charges for allocated storage per hour, billed in 10 GB chunks, so storage costs scale as you reserve more space. These two dimensions are independent. Your total reflects both the compute capacity running and the storage you allocate. Since billing is hourly, costs track how long your deployment stays active and how much you provision.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

You choose a deployment size when creating the service. That size sets how many vCPUs run in your deployment. Each running vCPU meters one unit per hour. If you select a size with more vCPUs, more units accrue each hour the deployment stays active.
Storage is billed in 10 GB chunks per hour. You pay for space you reserve, not just what your JSON documents currently fill. As you import more files and collections and allocate more space, the count of 10 GB chunks rises, and your hourly storage charge scales with it.
Both meters bill independently and add together on one invoice. Compute charges track the vCPU count in your chosen deployment size. Storage charges track allocated 10 GB chunks. Compute tends to dominate for larger deployment sizes, while storage grows as you import and reserve space for more document collections.

Powerful All-in-One platform, worth the learning curve

    Reviewed on Sep 01, 2026

What do you like best about the product?
The things I liked the most are the performance, having the multidimensional engine is really fast to read and write even with high data volume and it gets really impressive when compared with relational databases. Also, I'd like to say that it is really multimodel, so you are able to access the same data with SQL, as an object, or using the Globals. For the last thing, the interoperability module is very mature and there's a lot of features ready-made.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some things about IRIS that bother me a little bit, the small community, when you compare it with other technologies, is very niche. I asked about IRIS to a lot of people and they don't know what it is. Because of that, it is harder to solve very specific problems, sometimes you will have only the answer at old forums. The job market is very limited, it is hard to find someone who has experience with IRIS, and to hire someone and train them takes time. The licensing cost is not very accessible, so only big companies can afford it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The built-in interoperability engine has been very important to reduce development time on integration projects. I can use pre-built adapters and visual pipelines to route and transform messages. What took me weeks now takes days.

What do you dislike about the product?
Migrating from modern systems to learn ObjectScript is a bit of a hassle and requires more time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
IRIS has a massive focus on the healthcare sector and comes with built-in support for global protocols such as HL7 and FHIR

Iris’ Data Persistence Is a Game-Changer

    Reviewed on Aug 20, 2026
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I think IRIS is a really good product overall, even though it can feel a bit complex at times. What I appreciate the most is the data persistence, which has been especially valuable for my use case. It gives me confidence that the data I need will be there when I need it.

The IRIS portal interface is intuitive up to a point and generally easy to navigate. It took some time to get familiar with certain parts of the platform, but once you understand how things are organized, it becomes much easier to work with.

I also really like how straightforward it is to work with integrations. Setting them up and managing them has been a good experience so far, and I haven't had many issues in that area. The overall performance is another strong point for me. The platform feels reliable and performs well during day to day use.

Overall, I think IRIS is a solid product with a good combination of functionality, performance, and reliability. There is definitely a learning curve in some areas, but once you get used to the platform, it becomes much easier to use and provides a lot of value.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the main challenges for me has been getting answers to questions or finding solutions when something goes wrong. Since IRIS isn’t as widely known or used as some other technologies, it can sometimes be difficult to find relevant information, examples, or people who have faced the same issue before.

The licensing cost can also be a concern, especially for companies that are considering adopting the technology or expanding its use. It can make it harder to justify the investment compared to more widely used alternatives.

That said, I think InterSystems’ AI could make a big difference here. Having AI support built around the platform could make it easier to find answers, understand how things work, and solve problems without having to rely as much on external resources. I think this could significantly reduce the learning curve and make IRIS more approachable for new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Please improve the documentation. The current version can be quite confusing and sometimes makes it difficult to understand how certain features work or how to solve a specific problem. It would be really helpful to have clearer explanations, more practical examples, and better organized information. Improving the documentation would make it much easier for new users to get started and for existing users to find answers when they need them.

    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I like that InterSystems IRIS is particularly well-suited for ERP applications requiring reliability, performance, and data consistency. The platform's flexibility facilitates integrations, especially with nginx as a web server and HAProxy as a reverse proxy. Additionally, the initial setup is easy, and the product's security hardening is facilitated by the online documentation.
What do you dislike about the product?
The areas for improvement mainly involve integrations with other platforms.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use InterSystems IRIS to manage complex transactional data, develop robust business logic, and expose high-performance APIs, while being well-suited for ERP applications requiring reliability, performance, and data consistency.

What do you like best about the product?
I really appreciate the Worldwide Response Center (WRC) provided by InterSystems IRIS. Their support team is incredibly responsive and knowledgeable, answering every question with great expertise. It feels like having an extension of our own team. The WRC is a game changer, especially in sectors like finance and automotive where downtime isn't an option. I value that we can set the priority of the ticket and, in crisis situations, they provide immediate access to engineers who truly solve the problem.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve can be steep, especially for newer features or complex cloud configurations. While the documentation is extensive, it can sometimes be difficult to find specific examples for advanced scenarios.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
InterSystems IRIS provides high performance and stability, ensuring data consistency and speed for real-time transaction processing. It eliminates downtime, making our ERP robust and responsive.
