MongoDB Database Server AMI with S3 Backup and Secure Hosting
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you choose to run this MongoDB server. Each of the 37 dimensions maps to a specific instance size, so pricing scales with the compute power you select. The t-series options (like t3.small or t2.medium) suit lighter or burstable workloads. The m-series options offer balanced compute and memory. The c-series options focus on compute-heavy needs, and the r-series options provide more memory. There are no tiers or feature packages. You pick one instance type and pay only for the hours it runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly rate, and what's included beyond the MongoDB software itself?
You get a pre-configured MongoDB server AMI deployed via CloudFormation. It includes automated daily backups to an S3 bucket you specify during setup. You connect on port 27017 using the database username and password you set. The vendor recommends the t3.small instance type as a starting point.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped, and does the S3 backup add separate costs?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A stopped instance stops accruing this charge, though underlying AWS storage fees may still apply. Automated backups write to an S3 bucket you own, so S3 storage costs bill separately through AWS and are not part of this hourly rate.
What drives my total cost since there is only one billing metric?
Cost depends entirely on the instance type you pick and how many hours it runs. There are no per-user or per-database charges. A more powerful instance carries a higher hourly rate. To change cost, you stop the instance or relaunch on a different instance type.

MongoDB Deployment on EC2 with S3 Backup and IAM Integration
This deployment launches MongoDB on an Amazon EC2 instance within a secure VPC, providing a reliable and scalable database environment. The solution includes IAM roles for secure integration with Amazon S3 to enable automated backups and data protection. The AMI is preinstalled and configured, allowing users to start storing and managing data immediately after launch. Users can connect to the database securely using standard MongoDB ports and configure network access through security groups. This architecture is designed for performance, scalability, and secure database operations on AWS.
CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
