These images are based on the official Ubuntu Minimal LTS, built specifically for the EKS service, therefore are not intended as general OS images.
To deploy Ubuntu Pro worker nodes on EKS, you can use eksctl, EC2 Launch templates, Cloudformation templates and many other mechanisms.

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for Ubuntu Pro on each EKS worker node, added on top of your EC2 costs. Pricing is not a set of tiers or plans. Instead, each rate matches a specific EC2 instance type, from small burstable t-family nodes up to large memory, compute, storage, and GPU instances. Your cost scales with the size and number of instances you run, since larger instances carry more vCPUs. Billing is metered by usage and appears on your AWS invoice. Choose the instance types that fit your workload, and the matching hourly rate applies.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The rate scales with the instance size, based on the number of vCPUs in that instance and metered by the second. Larger instances carry more vCPUs, so their Ubuntu Pro rate is higher. You pick the instance types your worker nodes use, and each matching rate applies.
The Ubuntu Pro charge meters running instance time. Stopped nodes do not accrue the software charge, since billing tracks usage by the second. Underlying AWS resources such as storage may still bill separately. Charges resume when nodes run again.
The hourly rate covers security maintenance and compliance services layered onto EC2. This includes security patches for a wide range of packages, certified components for compliance frameworks, hardening profiles, and kernel patching without reboot. The EC2 compute cost bills separately on the same AWS invoice.
