Overview
Most AWS environments — especially those that grew organically out of a lift-and-shift — carry a meaningful amount of avoidable spend. Oversized instances, redundant data, idle resources, missing Savings Plans coverage, and legacy third-party licences (VMware, SQL Server, Oracle, RHEL) silently inflate the monthly bill. An Optimisation & Licensing Assessment (OLA) finds it.
PurePlay Cloud's OLA is a structured, AWS-funded eligible engagement that combines automated environment discovery with senior FinOps and licensing expertise. We don't just produce a list of EC2 instances to resize — we deliver a prioritised, dollar-quantified plan that your team (or ours) can execute against.
What's in scope
- Compute right-sizing across EC2, RDS, ECS and EKS using AWS Compute Optimizer and our own utilisation models
- Savings Plans and Reserved Instance modelling — including blended commitment strategies across compute and RDS
- Storage optimisation across EBS, S3 (lifecycle, Intelligent-Tiering), EFS and FSx
- Database licensing analysis — SQL Server BYOL vs. licence-included, Oracle exit options, open-source migration candidates
- VMware Cloud on AWS / VMware-on-prem licensing exit assessment, including modelling for the Broadcom-driven licence cost increases
- Network egress, NAT Gateway and inter-AZ traffic review
- Tagging, allocation and showback maturity assessment
Deliverables
- OLA report with current-state spend baseline, opportunity register and dollar-quantified savings
- Prioritised remediation roadmap (quick wins, medium-term, structural)
- Licensing exit business case with TCO modelling for top candidates
- Executive readout and Q&A session with your finance and engineering leadership
AWS funding OLA engagements are frequently eligible for AWS funding under the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) or the OLA-specific AWS partner funding pathway. As an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner with a 74% funding success rate, we will pursue this on your behalf — in many cases the assessment is delivered at zero net cost to the customer.
Getting started After ordering, our team will contact you within one business day to confirm read-only access requirements (typically Cost Explorer, Compute Optimizer, CloudWatch metrics and a tagging audit role), agree the in-scope environments and book the kick-off
Highlights
- OLA combines AWS Compute Optimizer and Cost Explorer data with hands-on engineering judgment, so recommendations are realistic to execute, not theoretical.
- Licensing exit modelling included — including specific analysis of VMware-on-AWS / VMware-on-prem cost shifts post-Broadcom, plus SQL Server, Oracle and RHEL alternatives.
- Frequently AWS-funded — many OLA engagements are delivered at zero net cost via AWS funding programs that PurePlay Cloud secures on your behalf.
