You pay by the hour for this security-hardened SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 desktop image with RDP. Pricing scales with the AWS EC2 instance type you run, not with a subscription or fixed plan. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size across families such as general-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r), storage-optimized (d, i), and GPU-accelerated (g, p). Smaller instances (for example t3.nano) cost less per hour; larger instances with more CPU, memory, or GPU capacity cost more. You choose the instance that fits your workload and pay only for the hours you use.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one billable unit for each instance dimension?
Each dimension bills per instance-hour. One unit equals one hour that a single running instance of the chosen EC2 type stays active. You pay for every hour the instance runs, counted separately for each instance you launch. Larger sizes within a family carry more CPU, memory, or GPU per hour.
Am I charged for the software when my instance is stopped or paused?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing the per-hour software fee. Underlying AWS storage or reserved resources may still incur separate AWS charges, but the software meter counts running hours only.
What drives my cost when I switch to a different instance type?
Your hourly rate follows the instance type you select. Moving to a size with more CPU, memory, or GPU raises the per-hour rate; moving to a smaller size lowers it. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance. You are not locked to one type.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources.
