Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for a minimal Linux 8 build based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, with vendor support included. Pricing follows the EC2 instance type you choose to run it on. Each dimension maps to one instance size, so your rate scales with the compute, memory, and storage of that machine. Smaller shared burstable instances (t2, t3, t3a families) sit at one end. General-purpose families (m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5d, m5n, m5ad, m5dn) run larger sizes, up to metal instances. You are billed only for the hours you run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension bills one running instance of that specific EC2 size for one hour. The rate reflects the compute, memory, and storage of that machine. You choose the instance type, and its hourly software rate applies for every hour the instance runs.
The software rate meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing this hourly charge. You may still owe underlying AWS charges, such as storage for the attached volume, while the machine is stopped. Software billing resumes when you start the instance again.
You get a minimal Linux 8 build based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, with vendor support included in the hourly rate. After launch, you connect over SSH using the ec2-user login and a private key. Support questions go to the vendor's support email.
