
Overview
This timeseries datasets provide access to historical popularity rankings of more than 150,000 movies and TV shows. The rankings, known as IMDb Meters, are derived from the interactions of the IMDb audience of over 250 million monthly visitors. As this audience is composed of passionate fans and entertainment industry professionals worldwide, IMDb Meters offer a unique reflection of the most popular, relevant, and trending content.
The datasets includes weekly snapshots of the top 5,000 movies and TV shows on IMDb, stretching back as far as 1998 until present day. Subscribers of the datasets can track the popularity/relevancy of a title over time to extract insights and model performance against key historical events.
Each of the included titles has or is currently ranked within the top 5,000 TITLEmeter, MOVIEmeter, or TVmeter chart as far back as 1998 (TITLEmeter) or 2015 (MOVIEmeter and TVmeter).

- MOVIEmeter Current: Top 5,000 most popular movies of the current week
- TVmeter Current: Top 5,000 most popular TV shows of the current week
Every title is identifiable by its unique IMDb ID. By joining the IMDb ID with the IMDb Essential Metadata or IMDb and Box Office Mojo datasets, licensees can leverage IMDb Meters Timeseries to power advanced business intelligence use cases, including:
- Correlating key historical events to changes in popularity on IMDb, e.g.: wide releases, festival screenings, and re-release dates; hiring and casting announcements; social and advertising campaigns; trailer drops and other marketing activity.
- Extracting unique trends and insights of title performance and audience relevancy over time to power data-driven decision-making, e.g.: release/marketing strategy; content greenlight/acquisition strategy, and; advanced content recommendations and discovery features.
- Building brand trust by leveraging insights from IMDb, the world's most authoritative source for information on movies, TV shows, and celebrities.
This product is sold exclusively as an add-on to one of the IMDb core data packages (Essential Metadata or IMDb and Box Office Mojo). The final licensing fee is subject to variables including the specific use case and length of term.
