Overview
The estate this is for
There is a particular kind of Db2 estate. It went in more than a decade ago. It runs on hardware or a virtual machine that nobody logs into unless something breaks. The version is out of vendor support or one release from it. The two people who understood the stored procedures have left. Failover was tested once, in a year nobody can name. The licence renewal arrives annually and gets paid because the alternative is unthinkable.
It is usually not the biggest system. It is the one holding up everything else, because every migration plan reaches it and stops.
AWS Transform now automates VMware, .NET, Java and mainframe modernisation. It does not convert databases, and its mainframe path is built for Db2 on z/OS. A Db2 estate on Linux, Unix or Windows falls between the two, which is exactly where these projects stall.
Assessment
One Db2 estate. You receive:
- A full inventory: schemas, tables, stored procedures, triggers, functions, embedded and dynamic SQL, jobs, and the applications that touch each one. Including the objects nobody remembered were there.
- A conversion difficulty rating per object, separating what converts automatically from what needs to be rewritten by hand, with the hand-written set costed rather than hand-waved.
- A target design on Aurora PostgreSQL or Aurora MySQL, with the reasoning written down.
- The constructs that break automated conversion, named specifically: Db2 procedural SQL, sequence and identity semantics, isolation-level differences, date and time handling, and federation or cross-database dependencies.
- A current-state risk register covering support status, patch level, backup and restore verification, encryption, and failover, because that register is usually what unlocks the budget.
- A cutover plan with rollback points, and a go or no-go recommendation.
Conversion
We convert the estate to an agreed functional and performance target: schema conversion, stored procedure and trigger rewriting, embedded SQL remediation in the calling applications, data migration with row-level and aggregate validation, performance testing against a baseline we measure before we start, cutover rehearsal, cutover, and documented rollback.
Acceptance is a measured comparison against the baseline, not an opinion.
Bringing it up to standard
The point of moving is not just to be somewhere else. The target lands with automated backups and tested restores, encryption at rest with customer-managed keys and in transit, multi-availability-zone failover, patching handled by the managed service rather than by a person who remembers, least-privilege access through IAM, and monitoring with alarms that reach someone.
Operations
Monthly, if you want it. Performance and health monitoring, version and patch management, backup and restore verification on a schedule, incident response, capacity and cost review, and a monthly report.
Support
Enquiries through this listing are answered within two business days, with a scoping call and a written proposal. After purchase you get a named engagement lead, weekly status reporting, and support during New Zealand business hours. Response targets by severity are in the statement of work attached to each offer.

Infrastructure costs
The target database runs in your AWS account. AWS charges for Aurora, storage, backup and data transfer are billed by AWS directly to you, separately from the price of this engagement. IBM licensing remains a matter between you and IBM until the source is decommissioned. Our access is through IAM roles with least-privilege policies that we document and hand over.
Highlights
- Scoped at IBM Db2 for Linux, Unix and Windows. Db2 on z/OS belongs to the AWS Transform mainframe path, and generic database migration tooling skips Db2 LUW entirely, which is why these estates stall between the two.
- Built for estates that are out of support, unpatched, and understood by nobody still employed. The assessment produces a current-state risk register covering support status, patch level, restore verification and failover, because that register is usually what unlocks the budget.
- Acceptance is a measured comparison against a performance baseline taken before work starts, not an opinion. The target lands with tested restores, customer-managed encryption, multi-availability-zone failover and managed patching.
