Overview
Avamar Virtual Edition (AVE) is a virtualized version of the industry leading protection software, Dell Avamar. With the movement companies are making to take advantage of the agility and flexibility of the public, private and hybrid cloud, Dell wanted to provide the same protection expected from Avamar in these new environments. AWS users will benefit from fast, efficient data backup and recovery through a complete software solution. Equipped with native deduplication technology, AVE facilitates fast, daily full backups for virtual environments, remote offices, enterprise applications, network-attached storage (NAS) servers, and desktops/laptops.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

The AMI may be used to deploy new instances of Avamar Virtual Edition. To upgrade an existing instance of Avamar VE to this version, contact Dell EMC support.

Deploy the Avamar VE on a private subnet.

Configure storage devices before booting the Avamar VE for the first time: Configure data disks as desired. The minimum data volume is 3 x 250 GiB.

Launch your Avamar VE Instance and wait 10 minutes for the instance to be up and fully pre-configured in system level.
