Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance size you run. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so your cost scales with the compute capacity you choose. The t2 and t3 families cover small, burstable workloads, from nano and micro up to 2xlarge. The m3, m4, and m5 large sizes provide general-purpose compute. The c3, c4, and c5 large sizes serve compute-focused workloads. The r3, r4, and r5 large sizes serve memory-focused workloads. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the named type, billed per hour. You pay for the software and the underlying compute together, based on the instance size you launch. Larger instance types carry more CPU and memory, so their hourly rate reflects that added capacity.
Hourly software charges accrue only while an instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not incur the hourly software fee. Stopped instances may still generate underlying AWS storage charges for attached volumes, but the software license meters running hours only.
The vendor provides maintenance support alongside the software. This includes technical support, scheduled server and software updates, and occasional emergency maintenance. During maintenance windows your access may be briefly suspended. Support runs continuously to help keep your environment stable.
