Overview
MayaNAS Basic provides cloud-native Network Attached Storage using ZFS special vdev architecture: metadata and small files on EBS, large data blocks on S3 backend storage. Single-node deployment with manual configuration via web GUI. Same robust architecture as the HA version, just without automated clustering. For production high-availability with automated deployment, see MayaNAS High Availability CloudFormation offer.
ARCHITECTURE
- ZFS special vdev: Metadata and small files on EBS, large blocks on S3
- Multi-protocol access: NFS, SMB, iSCSI, NVMe-TCP
- S3 backend storage for potential cost reduction
- Open-source OpenZFS prevents vendor lock-in
DEPLOYMENT
- Launch single AMI instance from AWS Marketplace
- Configure storage pools via web GUI or CLI
- Add EBS volumes and S3 buckets as needed
- Full control over storage configuration and performance tuning
OPENZFS FEATURES
- Snapshots for point-in-time recovery
- Data compression and deduplication
- Replication capabilities including cross-region
- Active Directory integration and user quotas
- End-to-end checksums for data integrity
STORAGE CONFIGURATION
- S3 buckets for data storage (configure as needed)
- S3 tier support: Standard, Infrequent Access, Glacier
- EBS volumes for metadata (GP3, IO1, IO2 options)
- Web interface for pool management and monitoring
USE CASES
- Development and testing environments
- Production workloads where single-node is acceptable
- File sharing and collaboration
- Custom manual HA configuration if needed
- Budget-conscious deployments
UPGRADE TO HA
For automated high-availability clustering with Active-Active failover, see MayaNAS High Availability offer. Includes 2-minute CloudFormation deployment, automatic VIP management, and zero-touch configuration.
Built on open-source OpenZFS with S3 backend integration. Includes web interface and CLI management tools.
Highlights
- Cloud-native NAS with scalable S3 storage and robust ZFS architecture. ZFS special vdev: EBS for metadata, S3 for data with potential cost reduction. Manual web GUI configuration. Multi-protocol: NFS, SMB, iSCSI, NVMe-TCP.
- Single-node deployment with full OpenZFS features: snapshots, compression, deduplication, replication, Active Directory integration. Same robust architecture as HA version. Configure storage pools and S3 buckets via web interface.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
