Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the AWS EC2 instance you run this VPN software on. There is no separate tier or plan to choose. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the compute size you select. Smaller instances like the t3 and t2 families suit light workloads. Larger m5, m5a, m5d, m5n, m5ad, m5dn, m3, and m4 families offer more CPU, memory, and networking. Prices scale up with instance size. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly software rate meters running instance-hours only. A stopped instance does not accrue the software charge. However, AWS may still bill you for attached storage while the instance is stopped. You are billed the software rate again once the instance restarts.
Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of the named type. The hourly rate covers the SoftEther-VPN software on Ubuntu Server 24.04. AWS separately bills the underlying compute, storage, and data transfer for that instance. Your total cost combines both the software rate and the AWS infrastructure charges.
