Intelligent Document Processing Redaction

As organizations explore uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI), we’ve seen significant enthusiasm around one application in particular: intelligent document processing (IDP). Regulated industries such as public sector and healthcare still depend heavily on paper documents, photos, PDFs, and unstructured data in physical forms. Processing these documents manually—whether for public information requests, insurance claims, crime investigations, or case management—is time-consuming and prone to error. When redaction of PII or PHI on documents is required, manual processes can take weeks, months, or sometimes years. By automating tedious tasks like redaction and data extraction, IDP reduces manual errors, time-consuming processes, and compliance risk, ultimately improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government and healthcare services and providing a responsible gateway to more advanced AI initiatives down the road.

How As part of this Professional Services engagement, Slalom will provide process and automation/AI experts to identify which processes are good candidates for automation and greatest return-on-investment (ROI). Slalom will apply our agile PEM delivery approach to develop an intelligent document processing solution with out of the box PHI & PII redaction capability that is modular and scalable to many other AI use cases. Our IDP accelerator, built on AWS, enables upload of files, optical character recognition through Textract, identification of PII and PHI, and automated document processing. The front end will also allow users to review processed documents and accept, reject, or reprocess the documents. The backend architecture has been designed to be modular to allow additional integrations or further downstream processing based on individual client needs. Slalom will develop an automation roadmap to support future development of other AI use cases to implement in future phases.
