You pay by the hour for Oracle Linux 9.0 running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so the software fee scales with the compute size you select. Smaller instances like t3.nano and t2.micro sit at the low end, while metal and multi-xlarge instances such as m7i.metal-48xl or p5.48xlarge sit at the high end. You are charged only for the hours each instance runs. Pick the instance family (general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, or high-memory) that fits your workload, and the hourly rate follows that choice.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get an Oracle Linux 9.0 machine image running on the Amazon EC2 instance type you select. The rate covers the software licence for that image. AWS bills the underlying compute, storage, and network separately. Each instance type maps to one hourly software rate matching that instance's size.
Am I charged the hourly software fee when my instance is stopped?
The software fee meters only running hours. A stopped or terminated instance accrues no software charge. Underlying AWS storage attached to a stopped instance may still incur AWS fees, but those are separate from this hourly software rate.
Is this pay-as-you-go, or do I commit to a term upfront?
This is usage-based, pay-as-you-go pricing. You pay per instance-hour with no upfront commitment or fixed term. Charges accrue only while an instance runs. If you launch several instances, each one meters its own hours and adds to your bill independently.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
