You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. All 21 options bundle the same software and maintenance support; the only difference is the underlying compute size. Smaller instances like t3.nano, t3.micro, and t2.small suit light workloads. Mid-range options like t3.medium, m5.large, and c5.large offer more processing capacity. Larger instances such as t2.2xlarge and r5.large handle heavier memory or compute needs. Your total cost scales with the instance you choose and the number of hours you run it. You can switch instance types as your needs change.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
You pay for each hour an EC2 instance runs with this software installed. The rate depends on the instance type you select. Billing meters running time, so hours accrue only while the instance is active, not when it is fully stopped.
The software fee meters running hours, so a fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly charge. Underlying AWS storage costs for the attached volumes may still apply while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
Every instance type bundles the same Traccar software on Ubuntu 26.04 plus maintenance support. Support covers version upgrades, security updates, and vulnerability handling. The differences across the 21 options are compute size and hourly rate, not the software or support included.
