Rancher Kubernetes Management Starter Server by Code Creator provides a ready to launch Rancher Manager environment for teams, developers, platform engineers, DevOps users, and technical evaluators who want a faster way to begin working with Rancher on AWS.
Rancher is a Kubernetes management tool that can help users deploy, import, organize, and manage Kubernetes clusters from a central browser based interface. This AMI is designed as a starter server for evaluation, training, lab use, lightweight administration, and early stage Kubernetes management workflows.
The server is built on Ubuntu 24.04 and includes K3s, Helm, cert manager, Rancher Manager, helper commands, first boot automation, and customer friendly login instructions. On first launch, the instance detects its public IP address, creates a public IP based Rancher access URL, resets the Rancher admin password, and writes clear instructions to the ubuntu user home directory.
Customers should allow 5 to 10 minutes after launch for Rancher initialization to complete before opening the dashboard. The first login details are available on the instance at /home/ubuntu/FIRST_LOGIN.txt after first boot completes.
This product is intended to reduce setup friction for customers who want a practical Rancher starting point without manually installing K3s, Helm, cert manager, and Rancher from scratch. It is suitable for labs, demos, training, proof of concept work, small team evaluation, and early Kubernetes management use. For production high availability Rancher deployments, customers should follow the official Rancher high availability guidance and use a multi node architecture.
This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges are applied for the deployment of the application and AMI support and compliance.

You pay by the hour for this pre-built Rancher Kubernetes management server, billed per running instance. Pricing is not tiered by feature. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type you choose to run the software on. The rate changes with the instance size and family. Smaller general-purpose types like t3.medium cost less per hour than compute-optimized, memory-optimized, or bare-metal types such as c5.24xlarge, x1e.32xlarge, or i4i.metal. You select the instance that matches your workload, and your hourly cost scales with that choice.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to for billing?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select. You pay the software rate for every hour that instance runs. Running two instances of the same type doubles the hourly software charge. The rate depends on the instance family and size you launch.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Note that AWS may still bill underlying resources like storage for a stopped instance, but the software licence charges apply only while the instance runs.
How does my hourly cost change if I switch instance types?
Your software rate follows the instance type you choose. Moving from a smaller general-purpose type to a compute-optimized, memory-optimized, or bare-metal type changes the hourly rate. Only the running instance's type sets the charge, so resizing takes effect when you launch the new instance.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
