Oracle Database 12.2 Standard Edition AMI by cloudimg
Eliminate manual Oracle installation complexity and go production-ready on AWS in minutes. This pre-configured, security-hardened AMI delivers Oracle Database 12.2 Standard Edition (BYOL) on Linux with 24/7 expert support from cloudimg engineers who specialize in Oracle-on-AWS deployments.
Why Choose cloudimg for Oracle on AWS
cloudimg provides pre-built Oracle AMIs across multiple cloud marketplaces, including AWS and Azure, with deep expertise in Oracle database infrastructure. Our engineers handle the build, patching, and optimization so your DBA team can focus on application workloads rather than infrastructure maintenance.
Average one-hour response time - dedicated Oracle-on-AWS engineers, not generic L1 support
Guaranteed 24-hour resolution SLA - backed by 24/7/365 ticketing with architecture guidance included
Pre-hardened and patched - latest OS and database security patches applied before publication
Production-optimized - ENA networking, EBS optimization, and Oracle parameters tuned for AWS instance types
Key Capabilities
Multitenant architecture - pluggable databases (PDBs) for workload consolidation and simplified management
Advanced SQL/PL-SQL support - full Oracle12.2 Standard Edition feature set for enterprise application development
High availability features - Oracle Data Guard compatibility and automated backup integration with RMAN
Pre-installed AWS tooling - AWS CLI v2, CloudWatch Agent, and SSM Agent for unified monitoring and management
Concrete Use Cases
Financial services reconciliation - Run nightly batch processing and reconciliation jobs on pluggable databases, isolating workloads per business unit while maintaining a single Oracle instance.
Mid-market ERP migration - Lift-and-shift on-premises Oracle 12.2 Standard databases to AWS with no application code changes. Pre-configured listener (port 1521) and TNS settings reduce migration effort to configuration-only adjustments.
Development and QA environments - Spin up isolated Oracle 12.2 instances for development teams. Pluggable database architecture allows multiple schemas per instance, reducing infrastructure costs.
Analytics and reporting - Leverage Oracle SQL and PL/SQL for data warehousing workloads up to Standard Edition resource limits, with EBS-optimized storage for sustained I/O throughput.
Security and Hardening
Latest Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPU) applied at build time
OS-level security patches current at publication date
EBS encryption supported for data at rest
Oracle Net encryption configurable for data in transit
SSM Agent provides secure session access without opening SSH ports
AWS Integration
Enhanced Networking (ENA) - up to 25 Gbps per-flow bandwidth for database backups and data transfers
EBS Optimization - automatic EBS-optimized configuration for consistent storage performance
CloudWatch monitoring - pre-installed agent streams OS and custom Oracle metrics to CloudWatch dashboards
Systems Manager - SSM Agent enables patch management, inventory, and secure remote sessions
Bring Your Own License (BYOL)
This AMI requires a valid Oracle Database Standard Edition license. Oracle licenses must be procured separately from Oracle or an authorized reseller. cloudimg provides the infrastructure, installation, optimization, and 24/7 support. Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance type you run. The software price is the same across every instance; your cost changes with the instance you pick. Smaller instances like t3.nano or t2.micro cost less per hour, while large instances such as u7in-32tb.224xlarge or metal types cost more. This reflects the compute, memory, and storage each instance provides. Pick an instance that matches your database workload. The vendor suggests m5.large or larger for typical use. Billing runs per hour with no upfront commitment, so you scale up or down as needed.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly software charge cover, and what is included on the instance?
The hourly charge covers Oracle Database 12c Standard Edition 12.2.0.1 preinstalled on Linux. You get a preconfigured sample database, the Oracle Listener on port 1521, helper start/stop scripts, AWS CLI, SSM Agent, CloudWatch Agent, and applied security patches. The vendor includes 24/7 support with a 24-hour response commitment.
Am I charged when my EC2 instance is stopped?
The software charge meters running instance-hours. A stopped instance does not accrue hourly software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the root volume and the dedicated /u01 Oracle volume while the instance is stopped. Restarting the instance resumes hourly software billing.
If I switch to a different instance type, how does my cost change?
The software rate varies by the EC2 instance type you run. Moving to an instance with more compute, memory, or storage raises your hourly cost; moving to a smaller one lowers it. The change applies for the hours the new instance runs. No upfront commitment ties you to one type.
