    Chatterbox Text-to-Speech - Software Sushi

     Info
    Deployed on AWS
Generate natural English speech from text with Chatterbox Nano on CPU, in the voice of a short sample you provide. This Ubuntu 24.04 AMI runs a private, token-protected speech service in your own AWS account, so you can create narration and voice prompts without sending text or voice data to a third-party service.

    Overview

Chatterbox is an open source text-to-speech model from Resemble AI. Give it a short English sentence and a 6 to 8 second voice sample that you own or are allowed to use, and it returns a WAV file in that voice. This AMI is for developers and content teams who prototype narration, voice prompts or accessibility audio and want the voice data kept in their own AWS account.

What you get: Chatterbox Nano on CPU with a private service on port 8094, an access token created on first boot (nothing is baked into the image), storage for generated clips and a guided first sentence under /opt/sushi/docs. GPU execution, languages other than English and a public voice catalog are not included.

Choosing an instance: c7i.2xlarge is the recommended type for normal use. t3.large meets the 8 GiB minimum and is supported for evaluation, but speech generation, especially the first synthesis after boot, is noticeably slower.

Getting started: launch c7i.2xlarge with at least 64 GiB of encrypted gp3 storage and IMDSv2, keep inbound application ports closed and connect with Session Manager. Run sudo -iu ubuntu bash /opt/sushi/docs/demo.sh, forward port 8094 and generate your first sentence. Back up stored clips before replacing an instance.

This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for independent AWS packaging, setup documentation and maintenance by Software Sushi. Resemble AI publishes Chatterbox under the MIT license. Software Sushi is independent of the upstream project and does not claim upstream or AWS endorsement. EC2, EBS and data transfer are billed separately from software charges.

    Highlights

    • Natural English speech from text, generated on CPU, one sentence at a time.
    • Speaks in the voice of a 6 to 8 second sample that you own or are allowed to use.
    • Recommended on c7i.2xlarge; t3.large works for evaluation but is slower. Private, token-protected service.

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for this text-to-speech software, based on which Amazon EC2 instance size you run. The two options reflect different compute configurations. The t3.large instance offers a smaller, general-purpose setup. The c7i.2xlarge instance offers a larger, compute-optimized setup. Your hourly software rate changes with the instance you pick, so you can match the size to your workload. AWS infrastructure costs, such as EC2, storage, and data transfer, are billed separately from this software charge.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

The rate covers the Chatterbox software running on that Amazon EC2 instance. The t3.large is a smaller, general-purpose configuration. The c7i.2xlarge is a larger, compute-optimized configuration with more CPU and memory. You pick the size that fits your text-to-speech workload.
The software rate meters running hours on your chosen instance. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Underlying AWS storage, such as EBS, may still bill while the instance is stopped. The software license meters active running time only.
AWS infrastructure is billed separately, including EC2 compute, EBS storage, networking, and data transfer. The software runs in your own AWS account, so you control and pay for that infrastructure. Review the current listing before subscribing to confirm all applicable charges.
