CloudFormation template
- Amazon ECS
Container image
Containers are lightweight, portable execution environments that wrap server application software in a filesystem that includes everything it needs to run. Container applications run on supported container runtimes and orchestration services, such as Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) or Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS). Both eliminate the need for you to install and operate your own container orchestration software by managing and scheduling containers on a scalable cluster of virtual machines.

What the CloudFormation template creates
- ECS Fargate server and client services running your application in containers, fully managed with CPU/memory configuration and health checks
- DocumentDB cluster for storing application data, with TLS enabled and accessible only from ECS server tasks
- Redis cluster for caching and fast data access, with in-transit and at-rest encryption enabled
- Application Load Balancer (ALB) for the client, routing HTTP traffic from allowed CIDR ranges to client ECS tasks
- Network Load Balancer (NLB) for the server, routing TCP traffic from allowed CIDR ranges to server ECS tasks
- Security groups restricting inbound traffic based on allowed CIDR and ensuring only ECS server tasks can access DocumentDB and Redis
- IAM roles: ECSTaskExecutionRole for ECS tasks (allows pulling container images, sending logs to CloudWatch, and reading secrets), and ApplicationAutoScalingRole for automatically scaling ECS services
- Secrets Manager entries storing DocumentDB credentials, Redis auth token, and the DecisionRules license key securely, encrypted at rest and accessible only to ECS tasks
- Auto scaling policies for server and client services, scaling tasks automatically based on CPU usage to maintain performance and reliability
Security and encryption
- DocumentDB uses TLS for all connections
- Redis has in-transit and at-rest encryption enabled
- Secrets Manager encrypts all sensitive secrets
