You pay by the hour for this minimal Amazon Linux 2023 image, billed per running EC2 instance. Pricing has no tiers or commitment. Instead, each dimension maps to a specific EC2 instance type, so your rate follows the compute size you launch. Options span burstable T2, T3, and T3a families for lighter, variable workloads, and general-purpose M3, M4, M5, M5a, M5ad, M5d, M5dn, and M5n families for steady workloads. Within each family, sizes range from nano and micro up to 24xlarge and bare-metal. Costs scale as you pick larger instances and run more hours.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what do I actually get for the rate?
Each hourly unit is one running EC2 instance of the type named in the dimension. The rate combines the minimal Amazon Linux 2023 software with that specific compute size. You choose an instance type, launch it, and pay for each hour it runs. Larger instance types carry higher hourly rates.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges meter running hours. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage charges for attached volumes. You only pay the listing rate while an instance is actively running.
If I switch to a larger instance type, does my rate change automatically?
Your rate follows the instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to one type, so changing size means running a different dimension at its own hourly rate. There is no automatic tier upgrade. You control cost by choosing which type to launch and how long to run it.
