Exe.dev is a subscription service for fast, persistent cloud VMs built for developers, coding agents, and sandboxed compute. VMs start quickly, keep their disks, and are immediately accessible over HTTPS with sensible secure defaults. You can share a web server, notebook, prototype, or agent workspace as easily as sharing a Google Doc, with optional built-in authentication when you need it.
Exe.dev also includes Shelley, our web-based coding agent. Shelley works from desktop or mobile and is available by default on exeuntu VMs over a secure HTTPS route. You can ask Shelley to install software, run notebooks, build websites, browse the web, debug services, or automate work inside the VM.
You do not have to use Shelley to use exe.dev. Exe.dev VMs are normal Linux machines, so other coding agents and developer tools run well too; several are preinstalled on the default image. Shelley can be disabled at any time with sudo systemctl disable --now shelley.service

You pay by seat-hours across four Team plan sizes: Small, Medium, Large, and XLarge. Each plan measures active seats hourly and bills monthly. The plan sizes differ by how much shared CPU, memory, and disk your VMs draw from a common pool. Any number of VMs can share that pooled capacity, so you scale by upgrading plan size rather than adding VMs. Two usage add-ons bill separately on top of your plan: Extra Bandwidth, measured as outbound traffic, and Extra Disk, measured as filesystem usage. These add-ons let you exceed your plan's included allocations as needed.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one seat-hour for billing?
A seat-hour is one active user seat on your Team plan, measured hourly and totaled each month. You pay for seats, not for individual VMs. Any number of VMs can share the CPU, memory, and disk pooled under your plan.
Am I charged when a VM is stopped or idle?
A stopped VM keeps its disk but releases its CPU and memory back to your shared pool. Because you pay for pooled resources rather than per VM, idle VMs free up capacity for other machines. Disk usage still counts toward your allocation.
How do the Extra Bandwidth and Extra Disk add-ons combine with my Team plan?
Your Team plan seat-hours cover included pooled disk and data transfer. Extra Bandwidth bills separately per unit of outbound traffic beyond your allocation. Extra Disk bills per unit of filesystem usage beyond your allocation. Both appear alongside your seat-hour charges on the same monthly invoice.
