Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. All dimensions deliver the same monitoring server; they differ only by the underlying compute size you select. Options span the T2, T3, and T3a burstable families for lighter workloads, and the M3, M4, M5, M5a, M5d, M5ad, M5n, and M5dn general-purpose families for steadier or larger workloads. Sizes range from nano and micro up to 24xlarge and bare-metal instances. Larger instances carry more CPU, memory, and networking, so your hourly rate scales with the capacity you pick.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One hour covers the Cacti monitoring software running on the specific EC2 instance type you launch. You pay the hourly software rate for each running instance-hour. A single running virtual machine of your chosen size counts as the billed unit. Separate AWS infrastructure charges for that instance apply on top.
The software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped or powered-off instance stops accruing the hourly software charge. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance. Charges resume automatically when you restart the instance.
All instance types run the same monitoring server. Your bill combines the software hourly rate with AWS compute charges for the size you select. Larger sizes, such as 24xlarge or bare-metal, carry more CPU, memory, and networking, so the hourly rate rises with capacity. Burstable T-family sizes suit lighter, intermittent loads.
