Mendix and Siemens Mendix is used by 4000+ customers across all industries - from banking, financial services  and insurance  to public sector  and retail  - but also has a strong focus on manufacturing  since it was acquired by Siemens in 2019. Mendix is the low-code platform of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio and comes with pre-built integrations to other Xcelerator products, like Teamcenter PLM, Opcenter MES and Insights Hub IoT (formerly known as MindSphere). Interestingly, after the acquisition, Siemens also started using Mendix internally. Four years later, they now have 580+ apps in production - all running on AWS - with 300+ more on the way. Read the case study

Mendix and AWS Mendix is fully cloud-native, with containerized apps that can be deployed in a public cloud, private cloud, on premise and even on edge devices. The cloud deployment options  include a highly automated and fully managed public cloud, called Mendix Cloud, which has run on AWS since 2016. Customers who prefer to deploy apps in their own AWS account can do that with the Mendix on Amazon EKS Reference Deployment . Over 75% of Mendix customers run their apps on Mendix Cloud, their AWS private cloud or a combination of both. As a Siemens business, Mendix is also a key part of the Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA)  Siemens signed with AWS in 2021. As a result, Mendix now has a dedicated AWS development team, which aims to make Mendix the fastest and easiest way to build apps on AWS. This has resulted in a rich set of Mendix connectors to 20+ AWS services  and an AWS Workshop , which teaches AWS builders how to use them and get started with Mendix for free. To do this, they will need the Mendix IDE, called Studio Pro. Normally, developers download it on their own machines, but they can also use the Studio Pro AMI  to run it on Amazon EC2. Mendix for SAP Mendix has been SAP's main partner for low-code development since 2017, and that partnership continues to this day. Many customers use Mendix as an innovation layer on top of multiple SAP instances, as well as non-SAP systems, rather than customizing SAP itself. Some are still on SAP ECC and preparing to migrate to cloud and/or SAP S/4HANA. Others are already on S/4HANA and using Mendix to "keep the core clean". Common use cases for Mendix are things which are typically hard to do in SAP, like native mobile apps with offline capability and apps for external business partners, like customers, suppliers and logistics service providers. Mendix supports the latest SAP Fiori design theme, called SAP Horizon, but for external users, customers often prefer to use their own, company-branded design system. In short, Mendix is often used to make SAP more accessible and user-friendly. Mendix can co-exist with SAP's own development technologies, such as SAP Build, Fiori, CAP and RAP, but it has three important benefits as a separate innovation layer on top of SAP. Firstly, it's an all-in-one platform, covering all use cases and DevOps activities in a single platform instead of a collection of tools with varying levels of integration. Secondly, it's all low-code, rather than a mix of low-code tools with high-code tools, which will still be needed for many use cases. Lastly, it's ideal for SAP and non-SAP alike, without (the perception of) being opinionated towards one at the expense of the other. More on Mendix for SAP

    Experience with Mendix Platform

    Reviewed on Dec 17, 2024
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Mendix is a great low-code and no code platform which has the great potential to enable rapid application development model within the business.

The best part what I like about Mendix is TAT(Turn around time) of the project. With help of Mendix, we can easily deliver an application in a span of 3 weeks from scratch right from development to deployment which usually takes months in case of traditional coding.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not having CDN within the Mendix architecture is one of the thing I don't like. It can have enhance the performance and response time of the application having within the application setup.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It enables RAD model which gives us an opportunity on building the core application without worrying about the underlying architecture of the application.

Mendix has a powerful offering as PaaS model where one has to be bothered for application and its data management and rather it is maintained by Mendix which helps in achieving less TAT (Turn around time) of the project.

A robust platform for visual development

    Reviewed on Dec 13, 2024
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
Mendix makes app development efficient with its visual interface, but what really stands out for me is the balance between ease of use and flexibility. Compared to other low-code tools I’ve worked with, Mendix gives me far more control and freedom to handle complex requirements without feeling constrained. The platform’s robust integration options and scalability make it a greatchoice for building applications that can grow with the ever changing business needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
One issue I’ve encountered with Mendix is the dependency management for marketplace modules. While these modules save A LOT OF time, managing their updates and compatibility with new platform releases sometimes become a challenge. I know the latest release is addressing this, but it still requires careful planning and testing to avoid potential issues in production.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is really user friendly. And everytime i talk to business or deep techy guys it is easy for them to follow and understand!

Swiss army knife that beats high-coding in a ton of situations

    Reviewed on Dec 12, 2024
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
You can start adding value from the get-go. This is achievable because the platform lets you focus on the business challenges instead of the technical details you need to focus on when building with alternative methods, such as what we low-coders call high-code. This does not mean that you are too limited. I would go so far as to say that for 80% of business-to-business or business internal processes, Mendix can easily supply a solution.

Mendix should not be confused with no-code or limited low-code platforms. You may build a custom application from the ground up. It will allow you to cut corners and reach your ROI much faster. If the platform can't provide a solution out of the box, know that the tech stack is Java, SQL, and JavaScript, so extending the server-side logic with Java or the client-side logic with JavaScript is still possible. As enterprise apps and even small business apps never work alone, integrations are effortless to achieve. By default, REST, OData, SOAP and DB connections are supported out of the box.

As I use the platform daily and I have done so for 14 years, I know it inside and out. I have even had short projects supplying Mendix R&D with my skill set. And have been appointed MVP since June this year. This is a fantastic program to support ecosystem developers with direct lines to Mendix R&D to achieve a quick feedback loop and an even better platform.

Even if you are not ready to buy Mendix yet it is super easy to get started, after you have build your first app, perhaps based on an Excel you have been struggling with you may deploy it to a sandbox and share the results with the rest of the world.
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform has grown a lot since its first inception. This means the learning curve is growing for newcomers. The number of possibilities to learn more about the platform has grown, too, but that does mean that it takes a bit of studying to truly become good at using the Mendix platform. This, however, is no different from any other mature application platform. It is, on the other hand, not so visible from Mendix's marketing that claims that anyone can build an app with Mendix. This is true at its core, but the moment you start to build core applications for your business seriously, it is still very advisable to have developers who know more about software development than just the basics that you encounter when first starting with Mendix.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mendix allows me to focus on adding value for my customers, far more then high-code ever did (I started as a high-coder early in my career).
Mendix is a full platform not just a coding language, allowing me to build, deploy, test, maintain and manage the whole software lifecycle.

Very inclusive tool that embraces the ones who has no experience with technology to create apps.

    Reviewed on Dec 11, 2024
    Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
How fast it is to create apps and how easy is to integrate with other systems.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes basic features takes to long to be released, like offline apps, when there was a need for a migration from WebSQL to IndexedDB, only available now for later versions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Really helps to focus on the business, so we don't really need to care about deployment that much or even which language to develop an app.
