This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for a pre-hardened, AWS-optimized image with verifiable evidence and maintenance. Based on Rocky Linux 9.8 LVM, this AMI is hardened, tuned for Amazon EC2 workloads, and equipped with a complete evidence pack and Software Bill of Materials (SBOM).

The hourly fee covers the hardened Rocky Linux 9 image built on an LVM disk layout. The security hardening follows recognized benchmarks to reduce the system's attack surface. Rocky Linux itself is open source, so no separate OS license charge applies beyond this software fee.
The hourly software fee meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software charge. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage, such as attached EBS volumes, while the instance sits stopped. Those infrastructure costs are separate from this software fee.
Two charges run at the same time. The software fee stays the same no matter which instance type you select. The AWS infrastructure cost changes with the instance family and size you pick. Both appear on one invoice. For larger instances, the infrastructure portion usually drives most of the total.
