ECS is a fully managed container orchestration service from AWS that makes it easy for you to deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications. Containers are defined using task definitions and run as services across a fleet of Amazon EC2 instances. ECS can automatically scale up your applications to meet a spike in demand or scale down when demand is less all leading to cost-effective operations in the cloud.
Underneath this robust container orchestration solution from AWS is Docker, an industry-standard container runtime engine as well as the ECS-Agent that is responsible for scheduling services across your clusters.
This listing bundles this robust orchestration solution together with Ubuntu, a rock-solid Linux Operating System into a single 1-Click deploy Optimized AMI.

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for the ECS-optimized Ubuntu 22.04 image, and the software charge is tied to the EC2 instance type you run it on. Each dimension names a specific instance type, from small burstable sizes like t3.nano and t2.micro up to compute-, memory-, storage-, and GPU-focused families such as c7i, r7a, i4i, and g5. Your cost scales with the instance you select, since larger or specialized instances carry a different hourly rate. You choose one instance type per running node and pay only while it runs. Separate AWS infrastructure charges apply.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and how is it counted for billing?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the selected type, carrying the Ubuntu 22.04 ECS-optimized image. You pay one hourly software rate per active node. Running two nodes of the same type bills two hourly rates. Each node counts separately, tied to the instance family you launch it on.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge applies only while an instance runs. A stopped or powered-off instance stops accruing the software rate. Underlying AWS storage or other resource fees may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate AWS infrastructure charges, not the software license.
Does the vendor provide support or updates with this image, and is that included in the hourly rate?
The image ships with open-source components and vendor-provided getting-started documentation. Under the license, the vendor may provide support and issue updates or patches at its discretion, but is not obligated to. The hourly software charge is tied to the instance type you run, not a separate support fee.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
