If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance you choose to run Typesense on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, so pricing scales with the compute you select. General-purpose options (t2, t3, m3, m4, m5 families) suit balanced workloads. Compute-focused options (c3, c4, c5 families) favor processing power. Memory-focused options (r3, r4, r5 families) favor RAM-heavy tasks. Smaller sizes like t3.nano and t2.micro cost less per hour; larger sizes like t2.2xlarge cost more. You pick the instance that fits your workload and only pay for the hours you use.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly rate on each instance dimension?
Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of that size, preloaded with Typesense on Ubuntu 26.04. The rate covers the software and vendor support. Instance size sets the CPU and memory you receive. You pay the software rate plus the underlying AWS infrastructure charge for that instance.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software rate meters running time. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the software charge. Attached storage such as EBS volumes may still incur separate AWS fees while the instance is stopped. You only pay the software rate for the hours the instance actually runs.
How do I move to a different instance size if my workload grows?
Switching sizes means running a different dimension. You stop billing for the old instance size and start billing at the rate for the new one. There is no upfront commitment, so you can change instances as your compute, memory, or processing needs change. Support is included across all sizes.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
