You pay by the hour for the software, based on the AWS EC2 instance size you choose to run it on. Pricing scales with instance capacity across families. The t2, t3, and t3a families cover smaller, burstable options from nano and micro up to 2xlarge. The m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5d, m5ad, m5n, and m5dn families offer general-purpose sizes from large up to 24xlarge and bare metal. As you select a larger instance, the hourly rate rises. You are billed only for the hours you run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing actually cover for this Subversion server?
You pay for each hour the chosen EC2 instance runs the software. One unit equals one running instance for one hour. The rate reflects the instance size you pick, from small burstable types up to bare metal. Underlying AWS infrastructure charges are separate from this software rate.
Am I charged the hourly software rate when the instance is stopped?
The software rate meters running time only. A stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is separate from the software licence billed here.
What do I need to configure before connecting to the Subversion server?
You must open TCP port 80 in the AWS Security Group firewall. You then connect an SVN client to the repository URL using the instance IP and the provided login credentials. These setup steps do not affect the hourly rate, which depends only on the instance size you run.
