Dimensions summary
You pay nothing for the software itself; this Ubuntu image is free of license fees. Pricing is billed per hour and tied entirely to the AWS EC2 instance type you run it on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small burstable types like t2.nano and t3.micro up to large compute, memory, storage, and GPU-optimized machines like c8i.metal-96xl or p5.48xlarge. Your hourly cost scales with the instance you choose, matching its CPU, memory, and hardware capacity. Select the instance that fits your workload; larger or specialized instances carry higher hourly rates. You run as many instances as needed.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension maps to one specific AWS EC2 instance type. The hourly rate covers the Ubuntu software running on one instance of that size. You are billed per instance-hour. Running two instances of the same type doubles the software charge. The rate reflects that instance's CPU, memory, and hardware class.
The hourly software charge applies while the instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software fees. Note that underlying AWS storage costs may still apply to stopped instances, but the Ubuntu image itself meters running hours only.
No license fee applies to the Ubuntu image. Ubuntu Server images on public clouds carry no license fees regardless of how many you run. Your cost reflects the AWS EC2 instance type you choose, not the operating system software.

The default username for SSH access is 'ubuntu', and the default port is 22. You can connect to the instance either by opening port 22 in your security group or by using EC2 Instance Connect.
