You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance you run this proxy server image on. Pricing is usage-based, so charges accrue only while an instance runs. The dimensions map to specific EC2 instance types across the t2, t3, t3a, m3, m4, m5, m5a, m5ad, m5d, m5dn, and m5n families. Each type differs in CPU, memory, and networking capacity. Smaller sizes like nano and micro cost less per hour; larger sizes like metal and 24xlarge cost more. Pick the instance size that matches your expected traffic and caching load.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one billing unit represent for this proxy server?
One unit is one running EC2 instance measured per hour. You pick an instance type, and the software charge applies for each hour that instance runs. Each instance you launch is metered separately. The instance family and size you choose set the hourly rate.
Am I charged when the proxy server instance is stopped?
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops. AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance, but the proxy software meters running time only.
How do I decide which instance type to run for my traffic?
Each instance type differs in CPU, memory, and networking capacity. The proxy server starts automatically when the VM launches and listens on port 3128. Higher traffic and larger caches need more resources. Choose a size that matches your expected connection volume and caching load.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
