What is our primary use case?
In my project, I had to connect multiple plants with Ignition Cloud Edition. I was sending messages through a gateway device using the MQTT protocol, and Ignition Cloud Edition was consuming it.
For example, there is one plant located in France and another plant located in Italy. In each plant, a PLC is connected with a gateway device, and the gateway device is able to share MQTT messages. Ignition Cloud Edition is able to subscribe to it. In the middle of that, there has to be one MQTT broker. The gateway device sends an MQTT message to a broker, and the broker sends it to Ignition Cloud Edition. In Ignition Cloud Edition, I configured a database. The particular database I used was MySQL Community Edition, and the database is used for historian purposes. There was also Perspective module usage as well.
How has it helped my organization?
I have compared many SCADA software for this development project, but I found Ignition Cloud Edition is better because it is limited by hardware configuration, not by tag. That is very good. It is responsive, which is again good. The concurrent clients can be acceptable.
What is most valuable?
First of all, I installed Ignition Cloud Edition on a VPS. I can view using Perspective by configuring Perspective screens, and then I can view whatever is going on in my plant from a mobile device, from an iOS device, from an Android device, from Windows or Linux. So it is basically cross-platform. Another feature Ignition Cloud Edition has is that I can use my mobile sensors because Ignition Cloud Edition provides the ability to use mobile sensor data if I use the Perspective module.
For mobile sensor data, I was using it as a Google map. It shows me where the plant is located using mobile GPS, and where I am right now. So it helps me determine how to approach the plant.
I am not sure if there are AI features inside Ignition Cloud Edition because I have used version 8.1. I am not sure about version 8.3. Regarding AI features, I cannot comment on that. However, the user profile features are very secure. I can assign view access to somebody, I can assign admin access to somebody. That is very good.
What needs improvement?
I would prefer if Ignition Cloud Edition would provide Python instead of Jython programming. It would be easier to do programming in Ignition Cloud Edition. Although Jython works, Python is much better to understand.
I would love if Ignition Cloud Edition would provide one more functionality. Ignition Cloud Edition can already be configured with multiple SQL databases, which is good. Ignition Cloud Edition can also run scripts, which is very good. It supports Sparkplug B, which is again good. However, if it would provide the functionality of Python programming, other than Jython, because Jython is a little confusing to me compared to Python.
Additionally, nowadays companies are switching to predictive maintenance. It would be better if Ignition Cloud Edition will provide some kind of API integration with AI models. The predictive maintenance process would be much easier to perform. If it would provide the functionality to do programming in Python and some kind of integration with a machine learning, deep learning model, or AI integration, a company could develop a predictive maintenance pipeline as well.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Ignition Cloud Edition for about four months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I cannot comment about the latest version since I developed everything in version 8.1. Version 8.1 was very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Ignition Cloud Edition is massively scalable.
How are customer service and support?
I have not had any problem using Ignition Cloud Edition. I cannot comment on support since everything was working. Support-wise, everything is okay. I never had to contact customer support since everything was working.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I was in a company because I needed to develop a SCADA system. The project was to develop the SCADA. The company had already a SCADA system which was very old. I looked at Aveva SCADA and then I looked at Mitsubishi SCADA and WinCC. We rejected those, since they were not that good, and money-wise, they were expensive.
What was our ROI?
Purely, it saved me money. In one-time setup, it is time-consuming. However, after it is set up, it is a time-saver as well. Money-wise, it saved money.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The setup cost is amazing.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Ignition Cloud Edition a nine out of ten. I have not used Ignition Cloud Edition AI. It was deployed on an online VPS.
Ignition Cloud Edition is massively scalable. If there are more tags, such as thousands of tags, more than 30,000 I think, then Ignition Cloud Edition is a cost-saver as well. Once it is set up, the Perspective module has the ability to work cross-platform. It can use mobile sensors. Another benefit is that you are limited by your hardware configuration, not by Ignition Cloud Edition's capability. Ignition Cloud Edition is very capable.

What do you like best about the product?
I love Ignition's openness and connectivity; it's open and intuitive, making it a joy to work with. The platform offers unlimited licensing, which I find very affordable and fair, and their free training and unparalleled documentation are invaluable resources. The support team is wonderful, always ready to assist and connect me with experts when needed. Ignition is also on the cutting edge of technology, particularly with innovations like AI that empower manufacturers. The modularity is fantastic, allowing users to pick and choose the modules they need, and easily expand with more in the future. Setting up Ignition is incredibly easy, especially with the container images they provide, which makes basic configurations quick to establish.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think there's always room for improvement in the designer to speed up engineers' work and clarify things. Sometimes, the platform's openness can make it tough to troubleshoot systems someone else made, as finding the offending code can be challenging, but these issues are minor compared to other options.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ignition provides a connectivity platform and development environment for factory needs, solving machine connectivity, security, and server management issues. It lets me focus on application functionality, while its modularity allows adding solutions for different plant problems.

What do you like best about the product?
I like how flexible and capable it is to do just about anything you imagine. I haven't had to tell a customer I couldn't go somewhere

There isn't really anything to dislike. The only issues I've had were determined to be bugs and they were fast to fix them.

It saves my customers money while also giving them better software and capabilities compared to legacy software in this same space.

It’s difficult to single out one specific aspect of Ignition as the most helpful. If I had to choose, it would be the IA Team and the community—those are what stand out to me the most.
