Reliable backups have protected critical mailboxes and have simplified ransomware recovery

  • March 04, 2026
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for NAKIVO Backup & Replication is mailbox recovery or backup, encrypting backups at a disaster recovery level, and providing an MSP-type service, as well as for clients who buy it normally. They also see it as an economical solution and very easy to use compared to other vendors in terms of cost.

I can give a specific example of how I use NAKIVO Backup & Replication for mailbox recovery or in disaster recovery backup management. Generally, we have situations where users delete emails or sometimes important pieces of information, or something disables an email account and that gets forgotten. It is easier to back it up and restore that object directly within the same mailbox than to be looking for PSTs to find that information. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, it is possible to look for that specific email and restore it, and if we compare it with other solutions among the many that exist, such as Azure, the cost is very minimal. We are talking that if Azure costs one hundred dollars, NAKIVO Backup & Replication costs five.

I would add that once we had a situation with a client where the entire data center went down, the host completely with all its equipment, and NAKIVO Backup & Replication was very important for restoring all the machines and internal servers that host contained. Since that experience, it has always been incredible with NAKIVO Backup & Replication.

What is most valuable?

I consider the best features offered by NAKIVO Backup & Replication to be the recovery and backup of emails, the GUI which is very nice and user-friendly, easy to use, adding resources, reporting, and the monitoring it has over the equipment directly if you enable it. The cost is also a strong point. The integration with multiple hosts nowadays, such as Proxmox, which is totally free, is valuable since we have high costs today with VMware or Hyper-V, making it useful for small or medium-sized companies. NAKIVO Backup & Replication is fully compatible with these and other tools, and the ease of using it and implementing it is remarkable. We are talking that in forty minutes a person can already understand NAKIVO Backup & Replication by eighty or ninety percent. Additionally, it possesses all the capabilities it has at the level of ransomware protection. All of its files are fully encrypted, which is part of NAKIVO Backup & Replication, and is the only way to be able to recover them.

The functionalities that have been most valuable to me on a day-to-day basis include situations with clients who have had many disruptions in their infrastructure. One of my clients was attacked, and with the protection that NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers at the backup level, I can guarantee encryption and anti-ransomware protection, which has been very valuable for our clients because the information has always remained fully protected within the tool. Regardless of the storage where we place it, that backup or file remains very well protected. The usability may seem very simple, but once you implement it, the result is viable and scalable for the client.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication has positively impacted my organization and that of my clients because when we started to distribute it, we began with clients for whom we provide IT as a Service. Clients come who say that they are paying a ton of money for solutions that may do the same thing. Comparing this with Veeam or other tools in the market in terms of price and functionalities, the feedback is often that they would rather stick with NAKIVO Backup & Replication. This is especially true concerning the disaster recovery part in VMware or host, with that security level of ransomware protection or backup malware scan being super interesting. NAKIVO Backup & Replication backs up all that infrastructure relating to VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, Linux, Oracle, DB, Exchange, Active Directory, SQL, Amazon, Microsoft, and it is a powerful tool worth its cost. Being economical and meeting expectations in various environments, including ISP, enterprise, education, or remote offices at the backup level, we can resolve all those specific needs. Additionally, we integrate with a wide range of NAS devices, including ASUSTOR, Netgear, QNAP, Synology, TrueNAS, Western Digital, and we guarantee twenty-four hour support as soon as you acquire the license. This is a plus, as is the integration with security tools including Microsoft Defender, Sophos Intercept X, Acronis, ClamAV, and others. We can store backups with many options at the cloud level, Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Backblaze, and Wasabi, and we also integrate with EMC Data Domain and HP.

For optimizing processes or saving resources in my organization and my clients, we can say mainly the cost. They have reduced infrastructure costs incredibly for our clients with this solution.

What needs improvement?

NAKIVO Backup & Replication has been improving lately as they have released many updates, and it seems to work excellently at this moment. There will always be emerging needs, such as AI, which come out over time. Solutions always have to keep advancing, but so far, I see it as excellent. At this moment, I do not have anything else to add regarding possible improvements or functionalities I would like to see in the future.

Has improved disaster recovery with seamless server replication and reduced operational costs

  • October 16, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use NAKIVO Backup & Replication to replicate our workloads, as we run the VMware vSphere environment, allowing us to replicate those servers or VMs from production to DR.

Recently, just a few weeks ago, we had an issue with our storage on which the VMs were hosted, and thankfully, because we were running NAKIVO Backup & Replication, we had already replicated the servers from production to DR, so when the storage in production went off, we were able to bring up the servers at the DR site without any interruption, with just minimal data loss.

What is most valuable?

NAKIVO Backup & Replication has been useful; in terms of licensing, it is way cheaper than other solutions, and setting it up in terms of implementation was easier and not difficult to do. The user interface is friendly and straightforward to use.

The best features NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers in my experience include the VMware replication jobs, which allow us to schedule the replication of servers at specific times and move them as quickly as possible. The Change Block Technology (CBT) aspect helps us check if data has really moved without even turning on the server, by just looking at the reports that have been sent, making it a beneficial feature.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication has positively impacted our organization by providing much cheaper pricing compared to other solutions, which means we have saved more money, and integrating it with our solution, the VMware vSphere, is not challenging.

What needs improvement?

It would be helpful if NAKIVO Backup & Replication could explore other areas such as UNIX environments, like IBM AIX server versions, since most of the core banking applications sit on those, which we need to back up and integrate.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for over a year, and I have been using NAKIVO Backup & Replication for over two years, with a year in my previous employment and more than a year in the current role.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

NAKIVO Backup & Replication is generally stable in my environment as it relies on the network to do its migration, so while it is stable overall, a stable network is necessary for it to run effectively.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

NAKIVO Backup & Replication is easy to scale up; we recently deployed a number of transporters in our two environments, making scaling straightforward.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with customer support for NAKIVO Backup & Replication has been largely positive; they are mostly available on weekdays, but if you need assistance on a weekend, you have to notify them in advance, making weekend support a bit challenging.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have had experience using Veeam, but my institution was using a different solution that lacked efficient replication features, leading us to switch to NAKIVO Backup & Replication, which offers easy use, flexibility, and a user-friendly interface. Previously, we were using Iperius, which was not too efficient.

What was our ROI?

I do not have much information on the return on investment, but I can say that if we were to go for other solutions such as Veeam, we would have paid much more, considering the number of servers we use in our environment. In terms of money, we have saved more, and because we are able to replicate everything from production to DR, we can now seamlessly work in any environment we want without needing many employees, as just one person in a single pane of glass can handle the switching.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing NAKIVO Backup & Replication, we evaluated other options, including Veeam and Iperius. Since Veeam charges per instance and had high costs based on the instances, we opted for NAKIVO Backup & Replication, which charges per number of sockets and does almost everything Veeam does, making it a better choice for us.

What other advice do I have?

I think NAKIVO Backup & Replication is a good tool and I would recommend it to anybody.

This review has been rated 9 out of 10.

I find this interview satisfactory and suggest that if there is an option to type or provide a video, that would be fine.

Backup solution delivers reliability and speed, while offering notable customer support

  • June 04, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

In general, my clients' use case for NAKIVO Backup & Replication involves small business customers who would like to build physical and logical independent backup solutions with a small budget, and of course all Synology or maybe QNAP are the most popular here in Latvia. Other vendors require generic servers and Windows licenses, but NAKIVO Backup & Replication only requires a small box and can work with limited resources.

What is most valuable?

Functionality-wise, NAKIVO Backup & Replication does great backups for Proxmox and VMware infrastructures that I work with on a regular basis. However, it makes working with Office 365 backups rather difficult, as it's very slow, and I have several customers who are quite disappointed with NAKIVO Backup & Replication about this.

The slowness is not about integration but due to how it's built; it's very slow and perhaps this is because it works on NAS devices or network-attached storages with their limited resources. Recently, I found out about one disadvantage of the NAKIVO agent that works on physical servers; they certified that they do not have a block tracking mechanism for physical Windows servers, so if a server is huge, say several terabytes, it cannot perform incremental backups and reads all the drives each time, which has left several of my customers suffering from this issue.

What needs improvement?

If we compare NAKIVO Backup & Replication with Veeam, it has slightly worse deduplication rates as it uses a 4 megabyte block by default, which is huge, and I have a 400-person customer for whom this product was not able to be used at all.

While it's possible to manually change the block size using expert settings, the default 4 megabyte replication block contributes to the slower deduplication rates compared to Veeam's 128-kilobyte blocks, which are much smaller and thus yield higher deduplication rates. However, NAKIVO Backup & Replication does send emails and monthly reports, including SLA coverage reports, which I find useful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with NAKIVO Backup & Replication for six thousand days.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of NAKIVO Backup & Replication between seven and eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability rating is the same as stability.

How are customer service and support?

Regarding NAKIVO Backup & Replication technical support, I believe they provide better support than Veeam due to their very good reaction time, which is usually just a few hours. In most cases, NAKIVO engineers try to connect to the remote system, organize a remote session, and troubleshoot the issues. In contrast, with Veeam basic support, you will have to handle most troubleshooting steps yourself, while Veeam engineers typically just send you instructions, and their production support is very pricey.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

When comparing NAKIVO Backup & Replication to its competitors, my opinion is that for customers looking for the most affordable solutions, it would definitely be NAKIVO Backup & Replication. However, if customers are looking for immutable backups, which have been a must-have feature for the past two years, they would probably choose Veeam since it supports those options. NAKIVO Backup & Replication is building their immutable technology just to be compatible but it could be hard to compete with Veeam.

What other advice do I have?

As an integrator, I currently work with NAKIVO Backup & Replication and am not the end user, so I work with almost all backup vendors. I would rate NAKIVO Backup & Replication an eight out of ten overall, as it's a good product.

It also provides an easy-to-use UI for setting it up.

How has it helped my organization?

NAKIVO gives us the security to retain valuable data backups and recover them in case of emergency.

What is most valuable?

It provides our customers with a backup option in case they accidentally delete something or restore their applications to previous versions if something needs to be restored.

It also gives us the option to provide our customers with backup infrastructure as a service based on the MSP feature that NAKIVO has.

NAKIVO runs on a Linux server that requires low resources, so it gives us the option to expand our services and maintain the backup infrastructure to our budget.

What needs improvement?

There are features that we would like to be integrated such as the ability to exclude directories, the creation of an image for bare metal restore as well as the creation of Plesk integration to use NAKIVO as a Plesk backup tool. The last one is very important and will make the solution stand out among similar products. It's a feature that Acronis already has, and it makes it very easy for admins or customers to restore their files, emails, and databases directly from inside the Plesk panel very fast.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for about a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is a steady product. That said, in some cases, you may need help from their support.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is fast, with some room for improvement.

How are customer service and support?

NAKIVO support is one of the best that we have worked with.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Comet, however, we made the change due to its pricing change, which made the old solution very expensive for a hosted solution.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was very easy. We were following NAKIVO's documentation.

What about the implementation team?

We set NAKIVO up from our end, and it was very easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's very well priced based on the features and the services that it provides.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also checked Comet, Acronis, and Veeam.

Granular backups, good customization, and very reliable

  • August 05, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I have deployed the solution in the data center environment, managing both virtual machines and physical servers. Local backups have been implemented, and tasks that were previously done manually are now automated, increasing the productivity of the IT team, as they can focus on other tasks while the tool handles the backups.

Additionally, the solution has been configured for database backups, which used to be a major headache for database administrators, especially when databases were damaged. Now, with both full and incremental backups, the response time for data recovery has been significantly reduced. The experience has been excellent.

How has it helped my organization?

Nakivo enables the automation of tasks within the organization, addressing issues related to forgetting such a critical task as data protection and mitigating the risk of data loss due to human error.

Additionally, it provides a centralized environment for managing backups, ensuring constant monitoring and validation of both backups and storage usage, all just a click away.

It is an investment that every institution that understands the value of every bit of data within the organization should make. Nakivo is an excellent option to consider.

What is most valuable?

The most notable feature of the solution is its ability to perform granular backups, allowing complete customization of what we want to back up.

The ability to define and back up even individual critical files according to our specified schedule is highly valued.

Additionally, its capability to back up virtual machines is noteworthy, but its ability to verify the bootability of these backups is especially practical.

Previously, it was often necessary to restore servers without knowing if the backup would work. Now, we simply verify if the backup is up-to-date and proceed with the restoration.

What needs improvement?

NAKIVO should broaden its horizons in terms of compatibility and integration with other tools. For instance, it would be beneficial to test its integration with other virtual environments like Proxmox, as I have not yet had the opportunity to conduct the necessary tests for this new proposal from NAKIVO.

Additionally, integrating the tool with ERP systems and monitoring tools is essential. Lastly, I would suggest putting more effort into making the user interface more intuitive to enhance the backup management experience.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the solution for nearly a year, from design to implementation, and I am truly impressed by how comprehensive the tool is. It even features functionalities found in the most well-known backup solutions but at a more affordable price.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a very stable and reliable solution. At least so far, I haven't encountered any errors in the backup tasks.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a solution that can support growth, whether it is geographical expansion or an increase in the amount of data to be managed. You just need to keep in mind some licensing considerations.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've used solutions from other providers before. However, the main reason for switching to NAKIVO was the cost-effectiveness of the solution and the extensive software benefits it offers.

How was the initial setup?

It is a solution where both deployment and future growth are easy to manage, so this aspect does not have to become a headache for administrators.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was carried out by an internal team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Thoroughly assess your needs before purchasing the solution. Depending on how your data center operates, you will need to determine whether the licensing should be based on workload or socket.

It’s also crucial to ensure that your network provides the necessary conditions and speeds to enable fast and efficient backups.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes, solutions like Veeam Backup have been evaluated.

What other advice do I have?

Don’t be deterred by the competitive pricing of this solution; it is highly effective and functional.

If you prefer not to take a blind risk, you can request a 15-day demo by simply filling out a form on the manufacturer's website.

Easy-to-use, robust and cost-effective

  • May 31, 2023
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

Our company has been using Nakivo for five years as a backup solution for a small vSphere cluster. Although newer versions have many other features, we only use them for on-premises VM backup.

Nakivo acts as a safety net for our data. Among other things, the ability to quickly recover information when needed gives us the peace of mind that comes from knowing that business continuity is in place.

Personally, I appreciate the following two aspects:

- Flash VM boot cuts downtime to minutes by starting the VM directly from the backup repository

- The backup repository folder contains all the information needed to restore data. In case of disaster recovery, just install Nakivo on any new Windows machine, add the existing repository and you have access to all backups, no further configuration is required.

The overall impression is very good. However, some aspects could be improved:

- Tape backup is somewhat rudimentary.

- Compression and data deduplication are okay, but they could be improved. For the same set of VMs, the vSphere Data Protection repository is half the size of the Nakivo repository.

Nakivo is an easy-to-use, robust and cost-effective backup solution. I highly recommend it.
