Stable, Reliable, and Cost-Effective Linux Platform for Development
Reviewed on Aug 25, 2026
Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is its stability, reliability, and ease of use. It provides a solid environment for development, server management, and everyday technical work. The large software ecosystem, strong community support, and extensive documentation make it easy to install tools, troubleshoot issues, and maintain systems over time. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS works well with a wide range of tools in my stack, especially development environments, programming languages, databases, Git, containers, and cloud platforms. Most integrations are straightforward because of the large package ecosystem and strong community support. It also works well with command-line and automation tools, which makes it easy to build consistent development and deployment workflows. Occasionally, newer tools require updated dependencies or additional configuration, but overall compatibility is strong.
What do you dislike about the product?
One drawback is that some software packages and dependencies can feel outdated compared with newer Ubuntu releases. Upgrading or configuring certain applications may require additional troubleshooting, and hardware compatibility can occasionally be an issue with newer devices. The interface is generally easy to use, but some settings and system configurations could be more intuitive for new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS provides a stable and reliable environment for development, server management, and everyday technical workloads. Its broad compatibility with development tools, libraries, cloud platforms, and hardware makes it easier to set up and maintain different environments. The long-term support reduces the need for frequent upgrades, while the large community and documentation make troubleshooting and onboarding easier. Since Ubuntu is open source and free to use, it also provides strong value by reducing licensing costs while maintaining good performance and reliability.

Solid for Headless Backend, but Ubuntu 20 Feels Outdated on Security and Optimization
Reviewed on May 09, 2026
Review provided by G2
What do you like best about the product?
I have used Ubuntu 20 for a long time on my enterprise software platforms. I works perfectly and it is well fitted for backend services. We mainly use it on headless servers, no UI needed. It works great, and it's free. We migrated to newer Ubuntu versions but still Ubuntu 20 is a power horse.
What do you dislike about the product?
It has been superseded by newer versions of Ubuntu so I'd say it is a bit outdated in terms of security or memory optimization.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used for backend services served via Apache2 HTTP services. It solves the problem of having a reliable infrastructure at a very low cost.

Ubuntu: Best open-source OS for developers
Reviewed on Jul 05, 2023

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is one of the most widely used operating systems for project development by developers worldwide. It is free, open-source, and has a great community of developers contributing to its success. The installation of Ubuntu is easy and it needs very little resource around 20GB to run smoothly on any system. I can install Ubuntu along with other operating systems and can select during startup to boot to any operating system.
There is nothing that can not be done in Ubuntu. I can do competitive programming, project development, and numerous other tasks which can not be done so easily on any other OS.
Previously I was using Ubuntu 18 LTS version, but when Ubuntu 20 LTS was released I initially doubt if I should install it or not. But after listening to positive reviews from developers across the globe I decided to make a switch and this was my best decision so far. Thanks to the community for providing free OS with such great capabilities.

What do you dislike about the product?
I am using Ubuntu since my university days and I didn't find any major cons of using it. There are complaints from users regarding its battery consumption which I also think is somewhat true. I recommend everyone to try it once using the try-ubuntu feature which doesn't require installation. But do remember that data loss may happen if you're using the try-ubuntu feature.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Ubuntu 20 for project development features in multiple programming languages and support from a variety of applications/services. The Linux kernel supports AMD and Intel graphics card hence I can run Ubuntu on old and new systems as well. There are times when I need to use unlimited storage for running an application, and by changing some environment settings in Ubuntu I'm able to do it. I can install project dependencies and applications super fast in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. The Ubuntu Pro provides me with comprehensive open-source security and AWS compliance. It is suitable for our small-scale organization and we can pay bills on existing AWS invoices.
Overall I find it has helped the developer to increase their efficiency and my colleagues are also finding it very easy to use. I recommend this to every developer, try it I bet you won't regret it.
