Dashboard planning has become faster and team collaboration gains clarity in layout decisions
What is our primary use case?
We use it mainly for planning and creating wireframes for our reporting dashboards. We have different things we need to track around our workshop and customers, and Mokkup helps us put those requirements into a proper dashboard format before it is developed in Power BI.
How has it helped my organization?
It has mainly made the initial dashboard planning process quicker. We don't have to depend on a BI person for every small change in the layout. We can first work out what we want ourselves, show it to the team, make changes, and then send the wireframe for Power BI development. It has also helped avoid situations where a dashboard is developed, and then we realize that we wanted the information arranged differently. Getting that discussion out of the way earlier has been useful.
What is most valuable?
The AI feature and the Power BI export are probably the two things I find most useful. The AI is helpful when we have an idea but don't really know where to start with the layout. We can get something on screen and then work from there. The export is useful because the wireframe doesn't just remain a mockup. It gives the Power BI developer a starting point for the actual dashboard. The templates and ready-made components also save time compared to creating everything manually.
What needs improvement?
The AI could be a little more flexible and understand the context of what we are trying to build. Sometimes the first version still needs quite a bit of adjustment, which is understandable, but better recommendations would make it more useful. I'd also like to see more options for showing interactions between different parts of a dashboard. More AI-based suggestions would be useful. For example, if we give it the KPIs and business requirements, it could suggest a few different layouts rather than just one. It would also be useful if it could look at an existing wireframe and suggest ways to make it simpler or easier to read.
For how long have I used the solution?
6-12 months
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We weren't really using a dedicated wireframing tool before. We mostly used Excel, PowerPoint, and examples of existing dashboards. Those were fine for explaining the requirement, but they weren't as convenient when we wanted to actually visualize the dashboard.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I think it makes sense if you are regularly creating dashboards and want to save time during the planning stage. The value for us is less about the wireframe itself and more about avoiding multiple rounds of changes later during Power BI development.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at using PowerPoint and Figma and also considered doing the initial design directly in Power BI. Mokkup was easier for this particular purpose because it is made around dashboard wireframing and doesn't require much design knowledge to get started.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, it has been a useful tool for us. It is simple enough for non-technical users to work with, which is important because the people deciding what should be on the dashboard aren't always the same people building it. The AI feature is a nice addition and helps with getting started, while the Power BI export makes the handover easier. I'd recommend trying it with one or two real dashboard requirements first. That's where we found the value of it.
